Good, really early, morning from Dayton Ohio! Just concluding an assignment that looked like it was going to be a walk in the park but was anything but, beginning with a flight that left 5 hours late and dumped me off in DAY at 2:33am with no car. The assignment was in Springfield, a half an hour away and was scheduled to begin at 6:45 that morning, ugh! While I went through the impossibilities that seemed to be popping up everywhere a young guy with two little boys walked up to me and we started discussing our predicament and the seeming lack of solutions. An actual departure looked less than likely as American had to go get one of the pilots in Houston which was covered with green, yellow and red echoes, soooo....... from 4:30 to midnight we waited and got sporadic, unencouraging updates. Amazingly, at midnight our crew loaded us and flew us to DAY. My new friend, "Jeff" and his boys were travel weary but insisted on driving me to the Marriott in Springfield in the wee hours, instead of going home in Dayton and hitting their pillows, just unimaginably kind. Jeff's gesture made my assignment possible and kept me from sleeping on the baggage carousel at DAY until Enterprise opened at 7 which would have still left me missing my start time in Springfield.
File this all under "The Glamorous Life of a Commercial Shooter". I texted my client, they picked me up at 6:30 and we were on site and scrambling right on time. 14 hours later I was wrapping up dusk perspectives and pretty delirious, but humbled, grateful that Divine Providence had once again made a way when all looked bleak. My client, and their client just kept looking at me all day wondering when they were going to have to pick me up from behind my tripod , but we accomplished all they'd hoped and then some, and that allowed them to turn over the keys to a brand new hospital to it's owners and patients this morning.
A side note, you guys would all like "Jeff", career Air Force, Dad of four, all around great guy who is battling a 10 year old son's serious health issues, stoically, faithfully. He's a woodworker, all around DIY guy. He sent me this link to a competition he is in the final stages of, where people can vote for him. If he wins, there's a substantial cash prize that would go a long way toward helping with his son's medical bills. You can vote for him once very 24 hours I think, the rules are at the link. The heart of MA2A could conceivably put him over the top if we jumped on it. Can I get you all to once again rally behind a worthy cause and see what we can do? H sure deserves a break, and I owe him large.................thanks in advance.
