I've got the R5c pretty much configured and I shot 30 minutes of video with it, looks like it's going to be an amazing tool. I need to shoot more with it, this video was in pretty challenging conditions, low light, etc, but it did a good job. I used the 85/1.2 and it proved to be a very cool focal length for video. This camera is a whole different animal, it's an R5 on the still side, but not having shot any Canon cinema cameras, it's a steep learning curve once you flip the switch to video.
Love the birds, Douglas! I was out on the marsh this past weekend and found both our ospreys are back and on their nest. Also walked (yes, walked) to the bald eagle nest near our house. Some decent osprey shots, eagles were more shy (just tail feathers hanging over the edge of the nest). I'll try to post something soon, been too busy to even download them.
Just exhausted at the moment. I did three online technical presentations today. Midnight to 1:30am for Australia, 6:00am-7:30am for Europe, and 3:00-4:30PM for North America (I only had a 15 minute piece of each, plus Q&A). Then I went out and biked 16 miles.
Here are Dan and me. We decided to buy a Red Sox 10-game season ticket plan, and a couple of weeks ago we got to go to Fenway to check out the seats.
We'll be in left field next to the Gulf sign painted on the wall. About 300 ft from home plate, but they are actually good seats. Angled so we don't have to turn our heads all game (most seats don't have this consideration, I guess 100 years ago it wasn't important), no poles in the way, slight overhang to keep us out of the sun and rain, but we can still see plenty of sky.
Those are coyote decoys in the outfield to try to keep the geese away.
Would have been nice to be closer, but not exactly in the budget this year. We got the price list - those front row seats behind home plate? A full season package in those seats costs $100K for a pair. Front row near the dugout and the on-deck circle are a bargain in comparison. Those are "only" $60K/pair. Maybe next year.
You sure had a busy day! Those tickets ain't cheap! In that sense, fortunately I am not a fan of any sort of sports.
Jim, congrats on the RC5! I was at Conowingo Dam shooting bald eagles Monday afternoon, a guy next to me had an R5C and a more still photo oriented camera too. It seems like more and more folks are doing videos these days. I have yet to press the video button on my cameras. My cameras are 4K and 8K capable, may take a look at that feature and learn something new. Some of those slow motion video clips are amazing.
I wa thinking the exact same thing today as I got ready to shoot a faith based charitable Roundtable luncheon. No longer is it the endless battle between shutter speed and or grain. Just dial that baby to iso 3200, crank up the speed light and shoot away. Wouldn’t have dreamed of doing that just a few years ago.
A friend of mine passed away recently, and I went out to his funeral yesterday in Abilene, TX. Went by ABI airport and saw some tankers there. Some very nice people escorted me out onto the ramp area and I got this shot of an MD-87 fire tanker. I don't know why the reverse thrust buckets were still open. I've never seen that before, after shutting down an MD-80 model jet. Any ideas why they were still open?
My 30 year old Dewalt compound mitre saw finally gave up the ghost, so I picked up a new 12" Dewalt version with a slider. They sure have improved those saws over the years, belt drive, smooth as glass. The lawyers have had their say in the process, it takes three hands and four buttons before it will saw anything...................... Still, it's a great tool!

Just fantastic compositions Douglas! Charleston is such a beautiful Southern city with so much to photograph!
Well done all!!
Dan
Thank you Dan! I love Charleston, so much charm. We got to spend only one evening and three hours in the morning in Charleston this time, before heading to Florida. Here are some more from Charles and Savannah, GA (on a overcast day).
Dan, I was at Conowingo yesterday so I have to sneak in some eagle pictures here too.

Douglas, the compositions of Charlestown are simply wonderful! I have a life long friend that lives there and he loves it! Hates the weather most times, hurricanes, loads of humidity....but the city makes it worthwhile.
The eagles are icing on the cake! It has been so many years since I was last there.
