I got stranded in MIA a few weeks ago due to the ice storm here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. So I spent two days photographing a large variety of aircraft at Miami International Airport.
Hope you enjoy them.
The all white B-767, REALLY took a long time to come up with that scheme. (SARCASM)
Also, notice the Atlas Air B-747-8 jet, flying on behalf of QANTAS Air Freight. The new -8 models of B-747's look so odd without the winglets.

I'll have to go back and find the shot. I remember Mark, he came with us on one of the B25 air to air missions. Wonder what happened to Mark?
He's still about, he pinged me on Twitter the other day. I don't think he is shooting much (I can relate) but he's around.
Good Evening Jo! Hope you are doing well!! We miss you. Are you doing any of your glassworks creations? We are way overdue for lunch, dinner, something.
Just got home from a 12 hour day shooting annual report images. FYI, anyone on the fence about a Westcott strobe unit, don't be, they are wonderful. I took the FJ 400 units out of their boxes and set them up yesterday, did a test run with the R5 just to make sure that everything communicated properly, then I put them to work early this morning. I talked to a corporate photographer in Dallas a few days ago who has a lot of money invested in Profoto gear, which is not tough to do, and he is switching to Westcott. The FJ400/Westcott Beauty Dish combination performed exactly as anticipated today and the client was thrilled, as was I.

I’m so pleased for you Jim. A well executed plan and a delighted client. As we say over here – A Result! Looking forward to seeing some of the images – as and when.

Lunch or dinner or something would be very pleasant. Let me know if you're down my way at all.
I haven't done a lot of glass recently. I've been spending more time laser cutting, and drawing airplanes instead, which end up as shirts and mugs in my Etsy store :-)

Just wrapped up the second long day and the Westcott strobe saved my bacon several times, specifically in situations where I had to overpower direct sunlight. I would have been lost without it! I did order a grid for the beauty dish this morning, it will be very useful in some portrait situations.

Hi Nick,
This assignment was non-stop bop, dozens of locations with little time to regroup in between. This image was the first one we had this morning and the lighting conditions were horrendous. The marketing director that I was working with held my light stand up the staircase to the right. I set the FJ400 at 3.8 out of 9 (the power scale goes from 1.0 to 9.0 in .1 increments. Turned out that 3.8 created a perfect balance. This image would have been impossible absent the FJ, with it we were on our way to the next location in about 20 minutes.
Wish I had something new to post. Photography is an outlet from the insanity of this 1939 European redeaux.
So I just spend time looking in the archives when Russian Migs were entertaining...
I think we need to restart the assembly line on these...
Thanks Ray! I can hardly wait to get those lights in a more dramatic scenario. The quality of the light and intuitive operation is remarkable. A Profoto unit with similar power is about 5 times as expensive, as are their peripheral modifiers, Westcott has a winner here. Last night as I was falling asleep I was thinking about shooting a dramatic portrait of Matt Byrd on the ramp with The Spirit of Alliance at sunset. I can see it as clear as a bell.

That we do like, and I like the shot of the marketing director..
I was going to attend the airshow at MacDill base in Tampa, Florida on March 26-27, but they removed the B-2 from the show. I am guessing it's being put on alert...Still a nice lineup but the light is in the wrong direction. I will skip this show this time. I have seen the B-2 several times, still can't get over the strange feeling watching it approaching, such an alien looking piece of work. I will still see the SpaceX rocket launch at the Kennedy Space Center on the 30th. Elon Musk got to be one of the most interesting persons in recent memory, IMO.
