Texas is chilly with gusts to 30+ so I am playing with the R5 today. I've been amassing "Small Rig" video tools to attach to it over the last few months and I think the system turns the R5 into a very cool cinema camera....................
Darn jim, do I need a degree to operate this?
That is a fine looking setup and the R5 is much different looking than I thought! Robust!!!
Great looking setup!!

Thanks Dan! I was chuckling as I assembled it yesterday, thinking about what I knew about video six years ago when Ross Jr. asked me to make a film for him. Lot's of water and sleepless nights under that bridge!

Mark, any update on Emily's lens situation? What's the next step?
I'm wondering myself. I have sent her and the school emails with the situation and the options available (not mentioning any potential help from us at this point). Oddly I haven't heard from Emily. The SID (sports info director) replied and told me they were meeting internally to see if they could cover a new lens. If I don't hear anything I'll reach out to him again later this week.
Meanwhile it is chilly up here (6F this morning), but not as bad as Mt. Washington in NH where it was -35F with 65 mph winds.

Last night's event was a lot of fun. I met a group of people from the UK and we had a great time together. One of the guys is the architect who designs all the data centers in Europe, one of the ladies is the marketing director for Europe. Hoping that this is a harbinger of new work across the pond.

Beautiful Jim!!!!
Was this taken with that "frakenCanon" setup you posted? Just jokin'

Nope, that was captured with my trusty (not a camera) iPhone 12 Max, in Pano mode. I'm finding that the R5 makes shooting events like this one much more pleasant to shoot. I just bump up the ISO to the point where the strobe and background are perfectly balanced and fire away. This event's conditions required an ISO of 3200 to allow me to shoot at f/11@125th. I bounced the flash off the ceiling behind me in most cases to soften the effect and the shots are very nice. Prior to the R5 I wouldn't have considered shooting at ISO 3200 in a situation like this one.
I stripped the R5 back down to fighting weight because no video was required on this assignment. Truthfully, I should have a second R5 that is fitted out for video so I can just leave it that way. Maybe I'll do that when they release the R5C in a few months. I've been told that the chances are pretty good that I'll shoot AFW this fall with an R1, wouldn't that be great?!

I know your dilemma Jim!
Having no "go bag" for the situation can be timely plus thinking "do I have all the right stuff" for still v. video. If the opportunity allows this, go for it. Write off..business expense??
