Thank you Joe! You would be most welcome, I'd resurrect the gathering at the hangar in honor of your attendance! We'd get Ray up here and Rob & Nan, maybe we could get Zane over too, it would be fun!

You are most gracious Jim! We will cross our fingers for next year!
"Media" Day of AFW 2021 is in the can as they say.Chandler and I are chilling in our hotel room, downloading files. Prior to our old friend Covid, I knew what to plan for at Alliance and could build on all the experience the previous year gave me. Unfortunately Covid and Amazon have completely changed the event and the photographic opportunities within. Gone are the days that you could find us shooting out in the airshow box and crouching by the taxiway/active runway, making those jaw dropping perspectives a whole lot more difficult to come up with.
I had an opportunity to hold an E3 for a little while this morning, but my schedule was too full to grab an unfamiliar body and head out. I plan on getting serious with it tomorrow.
I messed with the eye focus tracking and, even though it was programmed to someone else's eye, I could tell that it was a game changer.
OK, we will give you a pass. Old guy works 16 hours and he is "chilling". Rest well Jim, we will wait, we know it is worth the wait.
Stalling again, I will post a couple of Friday Night Lights...
This is the kid going to the USAF academy. He is running up yardage to lead the district and is breaking his school scoring records. Plus, he is a nice kid, how do I know? He talks to me!

not an airshow, just various stop and go's for fuel
Brian, I am amazed, shouldn't be though, at how crisp and sharp the images are! Not that any others posted are not! It is just that all are so well done!
Great work up North!
Dan
Well, as Jim says, things have changed at Alliance. The photo pit is now well removed from where it used to be right next to the taxiway. And since every other spectator is now behind, sometimes well behind that position a lot of the activity is now mis-timed. The Blues solos pass from behind the crowd and break in front of the photo pit is now a break more or less over the photo pit which pretty much excludes getting a picture of it.

Amidst a pit full of photographers, my Canon guys once again took care of me and pulled a brand new R3 out of the hat. I hadn’t planned on it, but I mounted a lens, programmed it to my eye, and never set it down. 13,648 exposures later I handed it back to my guys, only to have them laugh and tell me they’d see me in the morning . Chandler and I are waiting to sit down to a couple of well deserved steaks so we’ll have to wait a bit to look over today’s catch, but I can tell you this, the eye focus is very intuitive, and faster than The Word of God. Imagine locking on to your subject and being able to fine tune you focal point by looking at the area you want to concentrate on. Actually, it’s completely natural, your eye is going there anyway and so does your focus. Pretty incredible. More in a bit, if I can stay conscious.
There is no RAW converter for the R3 as of this writing, so I shot RAW + L JPEG. Until I have time to look at the files on my iMac, I'll reserve final judgement, but my initial reaction is, it's pretty darn good.
I’m sitting beside the runway, wind G 30, sporting. Looks like the sky is going to be beautiful today, it’s been everything from low overcast at dawn to a mesmerizing canvas of every cloud type imaginable. Got the R3 back, today I’m going to see how it plays with the 200-400.

Oooh, R3 and the mighty 200-400, color me jealous! I think that would be the perfect rig for outdoor sports!
Truthfully Ray, much as I love the 200-400, the 100-500 RF is pretty incredible at a fraction of the cost and weight. This ever changing technology has me second guessing a lot of stuff.

I was trying out the Nikon 500 5.6 PF this weekend. 1 stop slower than my f4 500, but just a bit longer and heavier than my 70-200 f2.8. Sooooo much nicer to swing that handheld all day than the big glass 500. And on a sunny day on the ramp, one extra stop isn’t such a big deal. I even had a 1.4x on it all day and the pictures are nice and sharp.
