Me too, my eyes roll back in my head if I just try to read that stuff. I'm still discovering things on my 5DSR bodies. I can't remember, did you get an RF 100-500? It's a dream lens that rarely comes off my R5. The other RF I have is the 24-70/2.8, it is sharper than the razor sharp EF version. You are going to enjoy this new phase in your work!
I still plan on spending a day or two with the R3 when Canon can spare one, maybe we can do that together at the hangar.

I guess the feature in the R6 that surprised me most was the electronic viewfinder (EV). The EV is so much brighter than my DSLRs. The best thing is you can have it set to display the photo brightness as you compose without pushing any buttons. I was really shocked by that mirrorless feature. There are way too many features in this low budget mirrorless. By the time I learn everything the camera will be 5 years old!
More importantly I am very happy with the ISO performance. I shoot in poorly lit gyms and football fields. Some would be better lit if the dads pulled their F-350s up around the football field and turned on their lights...seriously! A couple of gyms are poorly lit, then to top it off, they painted the ceiling black. I guess to coordinate with the team color.
Also, I am happy I can give the 7D II a much needed rest. It has been a real workhorse for me for over 7 years...and it was a Canon Refurbished camera!
Edit: As long as you use the 12 FPS mechanical shutter the ball is not deformed...but I really don't think I need 20 fps.
Good news on the distortion. I've never shot the R5 with anything but mechanical shutter. I suppose there are instances where the 20fps would allow a rare capture, but that's way too far into the "pray & spray" syndrome for me, don't think I would use it much. Just ordered a couple more 256 GB CF Express cards in anticipation of Alliance. I'll be interested in your journey with the R6, truthfully, the R5 is so simple, so forgiving, that I find it tempting me to shoot from the hip and be lazy and undisciplined. Sort of like 35mm does to a 4x5 format photographer, it's a slippery slope and I am not interested in letting habits that have served me well for decades atrophy.
Loved your photos! Just over a week ago I was up on the north shore of Lake Superior, MN side and had a great week. Have some great fall color photo's, sunrises at Split Rock Light House and Grand Marias harbor, and even some Milky Way to share. Just need to get past the next few weeks; sorta came back to a "Buz Saw" of activity. Seems we have an urgent issue on one of our programs and after 12-14 hr days for the last 2 weeks I leave tomorrow for Germany; 2 week trip. Actually going to be relaxing relative to the last 12 days.

I remember when I bought the 'Power Winder' for my AE-1. I couldn't wait to try it out so I got my daughter to get on her bicycle and ride up and down the sidewalk. During her second pass I had used the whole 36 shots on the roll of film. Thank goodness I was taking a photography class in college and had access to the development/printing lab. Anyway, the only time I can think of wanting 20 or more frames/second would be trying to get the ball on the bat during baseball, and that is not a big deal.
There are some rare instances where that kind of frame rate could save ones' bacon, but it would be rare for what I shoot and would just mean bigger CFEX Cards/RAID Arrays.
Beautiful Brother Zane! I agree, I had an assignment in AMA a month or so ago and everyone was groaning about the location. I have always found beauty somewhere in that trip. God Bless The Lone Star!
AFW 2021 is going to be more fun than I anticipated, just found out that I'll have an R3, a 600 Series III, the new 1.4 Series III RF extender to play with! Maybe Chandler won't notice that I sold his 1DX MKIII...............
The Leon River rivalry (well, only a rivalry for the long time residents over 50) was played out Friday night in Belton when the Tigers (red team) took on the Temple Wildcats (white/blue team).
When you are the punting wearing red, you don't want to see this much white and blue...
These kids are getting good at stretching the ball over the goal line...
It was interesting. When I first turned on the R6, the EV was flickering like a Nickelodeon when I was trying to get focus on the quarterback at the beginning of the play. In VB, there is mostly up and down panning, in football, there is a lot of horizontal panning. When I began panning, the EV began flickering and when I pressed the shutter to compose and shoot the blackouts were longer and it was harder for me to keep the focus on the player. As the night wore on, the flickering in the static phase stopped and I acclimated to the flickering while panning. It was OK as long as the player didn't make a major direction change as the flickering was happening.
Like I said, interesting. The initial flickering may have something to do with the field lighting. They are older lights so they may have been flickering. Plus that is a dark stadium. Todays game is going to be perfect weather at 1pm with perfect skies and mild temperatures. We will see. When the R6 snags the shot, it is great and the ISO performance in these dungeons is terrific.
Taking photos from the end zone into the field is the worst, however, since the newspaper has a very high tolerance for bad photos, I can make this shot work for them...
