I am hoping all of this covid stuff dies down. I would love to travel to some different places to shoot with a lot of the great photographers on this thread.
A few shots from our trip to the beach. Managed to get into the Blues practice. Location from show center was bad but it was nice to shoot some planes again!

I was thinking about all the “conventional wisdom” that the photographic groups have tossed out over the years, like specializing, and never compromising rates, and my favorite, beating clients over the head with copyrights.
I got a call a few months ago from a guy who needed three small oil paintings photographed.for appraisal purposes. My first thought was , how in the world do you make this project financially viable for both parties. Truth is, you really can’t. The gentleman sounded like a nice guy and he was in a bind because he had already tried a few less expensive options, with dismal results. I decided to shoot the paintings for roughly a quarter of my normal rate. He met me up at the hangar and we had fun for a couple of hours.
Fast forward to today, turns out my client, now friend , is the CEO of an international engineering firm and, it seems, they have gotten very far behind in their project photography. I just finished four of forty plus projects on their short list.
You just never know who people are. Sounds like you will come out just fine on that deal.
Thanks for the nice comments guys. I always appreciate good feedback. I was using the 100-400 and was just a little rusty on getting good close shots. That 1DxII has not lost its touch Jim. The error was on my part.
This morning, instead of going to shoot birds (with a camera) like I usually do on weekends, I decided to shoot something that's more meaningful on this special day. All these were shot from the Virginia side across from Washington DC.
I am sure everyone remembers what he/she was doing that morning. I was driving to my office and heard it over the radio, watched the news when I got to the office, went home after watching the towers collapsed. My wife went to the elementary school to bring the kids home so we could be together.
On 9/11/2021 my wife drove me to work because I was picking up my new truck from the dealership. I got out of the car at the office and before I got to the door my wife honked the horn and told me to come back. The news reported a jet had just flown into the World Trade building. I ran upstairs to see what happed on the television. Unbelievable.
Later in the day on 9-11, I picked up my new truck. I told my wife I would have it for 400,000 miles or twenty years, whichever came first. It now has 190,000 miles and is twenty years old. It is running like it has another twenty years left in it. Although it is relegated mostly to farm work, I would jump in it and drive it on a 5,000 mile trip if I had to.

Stopped by DFW on Saturday to shoot a few airliners....and at the first snap something didn't sound right... and this showed up on the screen....
Now it won't even turn on....
My 9-1/2 year old Canon 60D seems to have had the dreaded shutter failure.
That's 9-1/2 years of airshows, vacations, birds, racecars, trains, etc. It's been a great rig!

My management told me to start saving pennies...
Should have bought a Toyota Tundra,...Oh, wait, wrong tool! Sorry about your 60D, I still have my 40D, but it doesn't have that many shutter clicks, now I am worried about my 7D II!

Still have my 50D Ray!
Can't seem to find a lens that is very good used in the 27-200mm range zoom to keep in my car.
There is a Canon 28-300 but seller was unresponsive to my 2nd "buy" request.
The Sigmas in that range are well priced but unavailable! Not sure they produce a great image on a Canon according to reviews.
Sold my 25 year old Toyota P/Up many years ago. I miss a p/up! My Toyota van is fine but doesn't haul much long items!

The R3 specs and pricing have finally been released. The camera has a number of innovative features, 24.1MP/6K video, and a truly unique AF system. The tab is 6K as well so, "weebeesee".

Are you getting one, Jim?. I would say though, regardless of which brand, $6000 for 24 MP in 2021 is not quite attractive for a lot of people, given the competition from Sony and Canon's own R5. But if folks are fine with 24 MP and prefer to have a built-in grip, they have their camera! But still, at $6000...
