Currently the majority of photographers filling the internet with R3 opinions are wildlife (bird people) who want a 75 mp sensor, an AF system that will focus on the tip of a barb while the bird is in flight and cost $2500 they will mount their $12,000 lens to. So there is a lot of negativity. I guess the price will most likely be the decision maker for me, the rest of the camera looks pretty good for my use. I wonder if it will come in army drab green?
I'm with you Ray. If this plays out like most other releases, I'll get my hands on an R3 for a few days prior to mine coming in and that will tell me what I need to know.
It’s funny, with all the miraculous technology these companies have put in the hands of today’s image makers, they still remain an ungrateful whiney bunch. Ray Swindle wrote:

I am going to wait on the verdicts on the R3. I know it is only 24mp, but for sports it works well. The time difference from uploading 50mp to 20mp is significant, and every minute counts. I have the 5DS R for the higher resolution when I need it, and I am liking that camera more each time I use it. I guess I won't make a decision until I see the R3 and read reviews. Canon is making this tough, I expected the R3 would have been out this summer. I shot my first football game of the season last night and I am shooting the local college tonight. The 7D II and 100-400 still hums. ...Show more →
I 2nd that 5DSr Ray! I love mine the more I shoot!
Again super fine collage!

Some grab shots from our deck in Annapolis yesterday.
We are surrounded by trees so a short window of opportunity.
Nice catch of the Hornet, Patrick! I went to a small airshow in New Jersey yesterday, the only thing interesting to my is the F-22. Beautiful, dried weather, which also means no vapes. Here are some shots.

Beautiful shot, Ray. I have gone to several Tb shows his year, didn't see them doing the mirror image like yours any more, only this:
Thank you Douglas. I have found these shots are like the blind squirrel and acorn cliche. You have to keep going until you get it. Of course, that's what keeps us going to air shows...getting the shot we want.

Well, with the new Canon R3, you will be able to get this type of shots and the opposing pass shots consistantly, with 30 FPS, getting the opposing pass shots are almost guaranteed, as long as you can keep the jets in the frame

For those in the U.S., enjoy your Labor Day!

Thanks Douglas!
What’s the unusual plane in your set with the RAF roundels? ( and maple leafs and tricolours!)
Looks like we'll finally know sensor size and pricing for the R3 on 9/14. I just watched an Atomos NinjaV+ hour long event where the Ninja is paired with the R5, shooting 8k in the mountains, pretty incredible. 8K RAW in a package that's less than 5 pounds.
Jim, I think when I get older I am thinking about switching to video. Looks like fun. I use to love taking VHS video back in the early 80's. I didn't edit it, but I think video is on my bucket list.
Got this Gulfstream a couple of weeks ago departing Dallas Love Field. I photographed one of their birds that was for sale last year. Pristine jet, looked brand new, the one I photographed last year.
As much as I am enthralled with the still image, video is amazing. Especially with the tech that we have at our fingertips. Video is a black hole of time and takes a different vision than our still work. I've done pretty well with that end of the business, but I'm still no where near where I want to be as far as end product. When you look around at the people who are so great at visual story telling, editing, color grading and soundtracks, it makes me feel like I'm a rank amateur, well, you know........."mediocre"...........

Patrick, Ray is right, it's the DH-115 Vampire of the RAF, the second jet fighter of the RAF. If I remember correctly, the narrator said parts of it were made of plywood?
