The Milky Way photo's a few pages back inspired me to look back in the files. I have tried to capture the Milky Way a time or two, tough task and really love what was shared.

Thank you very much, Dan! Fantastic astro shots from you and Don. I have never tried that even though I have lenses that are capable for astro, but the operator is not.
How about some non aviation pictures from the last couple days?. The sunflower farm is just 5 minutes drive from my house. We all need something pretty to look at during this crazy time.
Thanks, Douglas and really enjoy these pretty shots !

Before the airshow this weekend, these little fliers will do. Taken yesterday morning and this morning when the light was good. The camera's bird eye AF works magic when the hummers are hovering over the flowers. The sunrise was from yesterday, wish there were more clouds.
GoPro Hero 10 rumors are beginning to surface. Faster processor, 4K@120fps, next generation stabilization. We'll see, my experiences have me using my Hero 7 Black units the most because they exhibit the best stabilization characteristics of all the versions that I have, up through the Hero 9 Black..............
Would any one of the many geniuses on this board be willing to share your focal point selection and auto focus settings for airshows? Using a 1DX, and struggling to get consistent results.
What seems to be giving you trouble? The 1DX is a great body for airshow work. What lenses are you using? Chandler likes the 1DXIII/100-400 combination, set on TV, center spot focus, not sure which "case" we have it set on, but I'll check.
JW, thanks for the quick response!! I am using the 1DX Mark 1 with the 100-400 II. I was using center spot also in AI Servo, but haven't been consistent. It may be my panning technique, or lack thereof. So I was really trying to determine if expanding the focus points would be a help.

I think the III you let me borrow was set to Case 2.
Chas, I use to use center point and got great results shooting jets over 1/1000 shutter speed. When I slowed down to 1/80 and lower for props my keeper rate sucked, but that is because I am using the camera beyond the recommended shutter speed for the focal length and is to be expected. Remember those aircraft are in very dynamic flight parameters. Even though they look straight and level they are moving in many directions due to the airflow dynamics. They can experience roll, yaw and pitch...all at the same time. This is why the jets are easier to get a sharp photo. Put that center spot on a painted orientation point on the fuselage and keep it steady. Want to practice? Go sit by a road with a 60+ mph highway and shoot trucks and cars with painted logos on the doors. Put that center spot on a small area of the logo and stay with it as long as you can. Set the camera to Tv, 1/100 (or lower) and fire away. That is what I do before an airshow. I normally shoot sports, but those guys and gals move much slower. Good luck!
Now, having said all that, the shooting parameters are much better when you are traveling at the same speed.
I'm going to chime in on your question Chas, but I'm exhausted and I'm afraid my thoughts might not be coherent at this point. Ray is right on the money though, you can trust his counsel. Let me think about this and I'll be back to you. Know one thing, you'll be rewarded for your pursuit of excellence, it just takes time.
