When I got up this morning it was cold. Don't ask how cold but there was frost on some of the roofs in the neighborhood. Currently it's overcast, and a "balmy" 38 degrees outside, at least according to the thermometer that lives on the front fence in veiw of the kitchen window.
House is currently in the mid 50"s and slowly rising. Would probably go faster if I went downstairs and started that heater also. Have to finish the laundry first, before heading downstairs to work on taxes.
Sorry about the furnace Ken. Our worst nightmare is no A/C in the good ole summertime.
After the short trip to Phoenix it was back to the indoor gyms for basketball. With the recent uptick in COVID cases and especially hospitalizations in Texas, I wonder how long the high school sports will last? County health officials in our county are about to close down businesses this week.
Well….. my excuse for not posting is that I have very little positive to report. We are confined to our house – by law. We can go out to food shops, pharmacy, medical appointments, and one hour of local exercise per day. The restrictions will likely last at least until mid February. Some form of restrictions will likely be in force until March / April / whenever. At that point we will have been in this state for over 12 months. Thea and I should get our first vaccine shot before the end of February. I hope that all the folks that are in front of us in the queue do get it first – they really need it. All the numbers here in the UK are going through the roof. This latest lock down is too late – again. We are running out of medics. It’s a race between the virus and the vaccines now.

You too, Nick. I was reading the UK BBC website - I didn't realize (numerically) how much worse your infection rates are. I see some parts of Scotland are over 500/100,000. I think the worst state here is Arizona, at about 100/100,000.
Ray, we just started winter HS sports here in Massachusetts this month (usually first practice is the Monday after Thanksgiving). Lots of modifications for hockey and basketball. No huddles. No in-bounds plays under the basket, everyone has their own water bottle. No locker rooms, you have to show up dressed (not sure how that will work with goalies ). Hockey rosters have been reduced, and the benches have to be extended so the kids are not shoulder to shoulder. Masks worn on the ice. Faceoffs require 6-ft spacing except the centers. Only two players allowed in a scrum, and play is stopped after 5 seconds if the puck doesn't come loose.
I'd like to see how this works, except I think only family are allowed in as spectators....
I launched into a project today to import several hundred Mini DV tapes. Figured I had better do it before it isn't possible anymore. I have a Canon Vixia HV20 hooked up to my iMac, hope it holds out. Still have about 20 Hi8 format tapes but no camcorder to import them with, probably going to hav etc buy something off eBay in order to get those tapes copied. I did some of these tapes a long time ago but the program broke the tape into clips, one for each time I pressed record, what a mess. Yesterday I found what seems to be a great program called "Lifeflix", it imports the entire tape without breaks so I'm starting from scratch.
Soon we won't be able to retrieve these memories and that would be a shame.

Jim, didn't we talk about this a couple years ago? I thought someone had a Hi8 to loan. And I found out my camcorder wasn't.

I guess it pays to buy the best media one can find at the time. I'm on mini DV tape #12 (out of who knows?) This one is from December 2001 and it's perfect. I did do many of these a couple of years ago but that default program that imported everything as a zillion clips just wasn't something that I could work with, every time you pressed "record/stop" it created an individual clip, nightmare! These are TDK Pro Grade tapes and they've been stored in the cases in sealed plastic tubs.
A little snow in Central Texas. Hell hath frozen over, thank you global warming. First time I have seen 4-5 inches here; and it isn't over. Snow is forecast for another 6-7 hours. Beautiful day to kick back, glass of wine and a good photography book...John Wade's "Cameras at War". Wonderful day here in Central Texas!
Wonderful images Ray! You got a lot more than we did. I grabbed the R5 and went to the pond in Twin Creeks to do some slo motion tests. Captured some great footage, and then it stopped.
Got my first "winter" helo assignment a little while ago..............10:30 am, 30 degrees.................brrrrrr! I tested the R5 last fall in air to ground work so it will be all R5 this time. It sure shouldn't have "overheating" issues....................
