Ouch. Come on, Jim. Unless there is something else that has transpired via PM, that was uncalled for. You're better than that, we're all better than that.

And J Mosher, we don't need your antagonistic posts either.

I come here to get away from this kind of crap, but that seems to be getting harder to do even here. Republicans and Democrats both have their share of nut jobs, they just go about their business in different ways. Did I vote for Trump? No. Does that mean I want to de-fund the police. Hell no. I love this country as much as

I apologize for upsetting you Mark, and I value your friendship tremendously. I'm just very weary of all of this "crap" and feel that we have hit a turning point that there may well be no coming back from. I guess I am also weary of people who turn facts and history into "Hate Speech" because they don't agree, parties and ideologies who think it's ok to burn cities down, destroy lives, businesses and this wonderful country because they didn't get their way four years ago, but we are expected to stand with our hands in our pockets and dig our toes in the dirt while they run over us with their "peaceful protests".

You all know me pretty well, I'll give respect to any and all but we have come to a point, in my opinion where the ones who talk so much about bullying, wax so poetically about equality and tolerance exhibit not one shred of any of those qualities themselves. We have for too long allowed the bullies to create their own version of everything, including our history, good and bad, and just because they say it, it becomes truth, it's time for it to stop and it's time to call a spade a spade and stand up for what thousands have given their lives for over the past 200+ years.

Let's put this in perspective, how many safe spaces and comfort animals would those of you on the left have required if, in 2016 the incoming administration had declared that everyone who supported the opposing candidate will be targeted and will pay a hefty price for having been loyal to the other party? The suggested price, among other things, would be not ever getting another job in this country and being outed and discriminated against in every way possible. Oh, but let's come together and put an end to all the hate and unrest..................to quote the supposed winner of this election......"Come on man!" Beat the living tar out of 49% of this country for four years, manufacture all manner of lies and deceit, spend hundred of millions of dollars that could have, should have gone elsewhere, burn this beautiful country down because you're not pleased with how things turned out, but now we're supposed to sing Kumbaya while you flush what's left of America down the drain............you bet, where do I sign up?

Jim...

First of all, I am not a US citizen, I am not specialized in US history/politics either, so please do not take my words as an opinion of anything US!

Politics, the worst and the dirtiest thing ever. When politics comes, ethics run away (jumps the window).

Include politics with religion, you will have what the world is crazy about these days. Include it in friendship, again things WILL break!

History is something to learn from, not to fight for. If I would fight because of history, I would hate anything British because at a point of time UK invaded us (Bahrain) and occupied us for over 100 years! I am learning from history, and I have British friends too, including James Goggin, which I am honored that I know him!

As a rule of thumb, generally, deal with people with your ethics, not with their ethics-less (so to speak)!

Jim, you probably know where I stand politically. It's not just ANTIFA, which is not just an "idea" like the Big Guy said. That fact that the Washington DC city government had a committee looking into dismantling the Washington Monument and the Jefferson Memorial is more than alarming. I know a thing or two about the Red Guards in the 'Cultural Revolution" in communist China, because I lived through it. What these folks are trying to do is no different from what the Red Guards did.

Anyways, here are some flying subjects from recent visits to Conowingo Dam in Maryland.

Whatever you are thankful for, you folks all have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Jim, you have so eloquently "put it out there, Sir," I utterly support, value and ascribe to your commentary. What the "left," (whoever they are), in today's vernacular, "do NOT get" is the outcome of pushing on the rattlesnake in full coil. There is that "prickly" 2nd Amendment.

Friday Night Lights...I am standing on the sidelines before the game waiting for the National Anthem when a JrROTC cadet taps me on the shoulder. I turn around and see him holding a camera. He asked me if I knew how to focus the camera. I am taken off guard with this question. I look at the camera and it is a small Rebel like model, not sure of the brand, with a third party lens. I turned the lens over to try to find the autofocus switch thinking it may be in manual. It did not have one. It had a very small (maybe 3/16ths inch wide) focus ring near the camera mount. I looked in the viewfinder and there was no focus assist ring. So I showed him how to focus the camera. You know, it was kind of like someone asking how to drive a car that doesn't have an automatic transmission. He was going to take pictures of his crew running with the school flags when his team scored. I wished him luck.

Great images Ray! Moments like that remind us how fortunate we are to be shooting with the stuff we shoot with. Are those with your 1DXIII?

No Jim, I don't have a IDX. I use my 7D II and 70-200 IS II for football for the paper. I would use the 300 2.8 II but it is too heavy to lug around when I only have 30 minutes to shoot.

Following up on the last image, the guy in red saved his touchdown run by wrapping the ball up to his head. He fumbled the ball just as he was crossing the goal line...

Thank you, Rags, Don, Jim!

Conowingo Dam is about 60 miles north of where I live, or 40 miles north of Baltimore. It's said to be one of the best locations in the U.S. to photograph bald eagles snatching fish out of the water. BIF enthusiasts from all over the country, or even foreign countries go there just for that. I just met some folks from California who flew here with their 600mm F4 lenses just for that. Parking can be an issue if you don't get there early enough. For better or worse, social media has made all attractions more crowded. I read that the best season is from later Oct. to late Jan.

For these shots I used both the Sony A9 (for it's top notch AF and 20 FPS, but only 24 MP) and the Sony A7RIV (for its resolution that allows massive cropping). The lens I used is the lowly Sony 200-600+1.4 TC. All images were cropped, some were cropped over 50% of the frames. Jim, your Canon R5 will be a PERFECT camera for this, top notch AF, FPS and high resolution.

Do I remember that you are considering an R5? I need to bring mine down and let you shoot a game with it.

I was thinking about the R6. I didn't know the R5 ISO was good at 12,800. 90% of my Friday Night Lights are shot using 10,000-12,800 ISO. That is why I am considering the R6.

I did buy the 5DS R when they lowered the price. I am using it for the football feature shots. They set up times during the middle of the morning and afternoon for the session. I have about 15 minutes with the kid because they are leaving for class or practice. Getting the exposure correct on the subject left the background blown out on sunny days here in Central Texas. I began taking a ladder so I could shoot down and use the turf for a backdrop. Much better. I am still adjusting to the 5DS R, it is a great camera. Still working on getting better photos for the feature shots...

Excellent Ray, try bringing your light source little more to one side. you'll get more dimension on your subject with a little light fall off to one side. I use a speed light soft box that has a bit of a lip that allows you to play the light fall off a bit.

https://www.manfrotto.com/us-en/ezybox-hotshoe-kit-15-x-15-w-bracket-ll-ls2438/?gclid=CjwKCAiAtej9BRAvEiwA0UAWXvOJHJmt7OvCAOqRJvpNhKpIyu-RM2EU_Zm9328RY8W2PuNfbd7_thoCBBcQAvD_BwE

You might not have time to massage your light if you are shooting these under the gun, but you'd be amazed at the quality of light you can get from these inexpensive soft boxes.
