You are so right Ken. Lot's of photographers get all twisted up about photo credits, sure they're a nice thing to get, but you just can't deposit them. The number of times someone has said "we'll give you a photo credit......" is incalculable, translation: "Your work isn't worth paying for......".

Uh-Oh....TOPP! Chandler's new little piece of The Lone Star, still not long enough to land on

You need "drag chutes" Jim! Yes that "landing strip" to the East should do fine!!
Nice piece of property!!

R5 mystery solved, the EF/RF ND adapter seems to be the culprit. That adapter is great for video (although I'm going to run some tests on it's effect on sharpness vs a good B+W VND on the lens itself) My Buddy at Competitive Camera gave me the straight adapter until my clear drop in filter gets here later this week.

I'm going out to HQ to shoot some more tests but I am fairly confident that I've found the missing piece of the puzzle. I don't think anyone else is shooting the RF-EF ND adapter at the moment because they

Hi Jim. Very glad to hear that the R5 issue has been figured out. I think it’s a timely reminder of just how far we are pushing the limits with these hi res cameras. It apparently takes very little to put things out of kilter. I recently came across what is supposed to be an RF lens road map for 2021. Retail opportunities!

Canon TS-R 14mm f/4L
Canon TS-R 24mm f/3.5L
Canon RF 10-24mm f/4L USM
Canon RF 14-35mm f/4L IS USM
Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 IS STM Macro
Canon RF 35mm f/1.2L USM
Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM
Canon RF 135mm f/1.4L USM
Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-7.1 IS USM
Canon RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM
Canon RF 500mm f/4L IS USM
Canon RF 600mm f/4L IS USM
Canon RF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM
Canon RF 1200mm f/8L IS USM
Apparently the two TS models may have auto focus or some form of focal plane focus assist. The 1200mm has an optional extra in the form of a “carry to tripod service”

I had an opportunity to finally catch what I consider one of the most unique paint schemes of a commercial airliner on Monday, as this beautiful bird was heading back towards Portland.

They have two more Airbus models painted in the same scheme.

I just wish more airlines would do special schemes like Southwest, JetBlue and Alaska. I know American has a few Retro schemes as well.

It was a gorgeous day for photography, no doubt about it.

Hope everyone is having a great week, Friday is just around the corner!

It's certainly a challenge, but once it clicks helicopters are a ton of fun!

Beautiful sunrise, Jim!

My humble contribution from this morning, shot at Shenandoah National Park (yes, there is a national park 60 miles from the swamp). The foliage colors are not quite there yet.

Douglas, your pics are exquisite.... putting me in my memory bank of my two attempts at the (then) Old Dominion 100 mile runner/horse event that started at the 4H Campgrounds on the other side of the first rise to cross over the first Shenandoah Ridge, ultimately to finish up in the same place. I made 50 miles the first year in 1980 and about 60 the second year in 81. Thereafter I helped a good friend of mine by being his running partner when it began to get dark around Elizabeth Furnace.

As always, thanks for your pictures that evoke such beautiful memories, and for my gratitude for your being one of us. We wouldn't be who we are with out you and yours.

Does anyone know offhand if Alaska airlines fleet still consists of all freighter aircraft, or is it now a mix of frieghter, and passenger specific aircraft?

First order of business as I come up for air, Douglas! Breathtaking!! One gets lost in the beauty of your imagery.

Texas' first "Drive In" Air Show is at it's mid point and it appears to be a success. The weather is it's usual unpredictable self, but the crew o this show is so used to adapting we hardly noticed...................

Thank you for your kind words, Anthony! Wow! That’s was some tough running you had! I have hiked a few times in Shenandoah but now mostly just drive around and photograph from the overlooks.

I think that they have two or three dedicated B-737-300 series aircraft for freight only, I don't think they have any combi aircraft in their fleet, any longer.

766.68GB captured at AFW 2020. The winds howled, mornings were cool, afternoons pleasant, a good time was had by all I think. Unconventional for sure, but it went well and it was great to refresh old relationships and build new ones.

The R5 mystery has been solved, I always enjoy being the R&D department, comes with being on the cutting edge I guess............

Relieved to discover that the Canon R5 is indeed and exceptional new tool!

For anyone wondering, or contemplating an R5 acquisition, the above image was captured with the RF 100-500, a wonderful lens and one that I would classify in the "must have" category, even if you have an EF 100-400. I shot the R5 about 50% of the time at AFW 2020 because I was intent on getting good with it, and 100% of the time I used the 100-500. The air was very churned up, kind of like that cold/warm feeling you get swimming in spring fed waters. Well, if you haven't experienced it photographically, it's a real sharpness killer. Between the cold/warm air syndrome, lots of concrete, winds varying 15-40 and a bunch of afterburner s on top of that, everyone was moaning about lack of sharpness. I had a very laid back, for me, attitude about this event from the get go. I decide that it was an opportunity for me to dive into the R5, experiment, win/lose, just pull out all the stops and not be focused on absolute imagery as much as getting to know my gear. I saw plenty of what many of the photographers were complaining about so yesterday I shot some R5, but dropped back to the 200-400 mounted on my trusty 1DX MKIII, if that combo isn't nailing it 95% of the time, in any conditions, then you might as well head to the barn. I'm going to start looking through the shots in a few minutes so we'll see how good my instincts were.

Canon is sending me at the 85/1.2 to test a bit, really looking forward to that! I can hardly wait for some of those lenses Nick posted about for 2021, especially the RF tilt shifts.
