Folks, finally I managed to attend my first airshow of this year in Ocean City, Maryland. Normally I would have gone to 4 or 5 airshows by this time of the year. I went to see three flyovers but I don't consider these "airshows". The weather was just horrible, gloomy and hazy, it was raining a bit when the TB did their act. I was glad they didn't cancel this show again. It was postponed from June. At least I got a vapor cone!
Nicely done Douglas! That's more successful crossing imagery than I have captured in my entire shooting life, outstanding! And the vapor images, well they speak for themselves!

Thank you, Jim. One of the reasons I bought the Sony A9 is for its 20 FPS for the crossing shots since I go to so many airshows. 20 FPS sure beats 10 FPS in term of probability of capturing the exact moment, all else equal. I wish the A9 had more resolution... Hello, Canon R5.

Hey Glenn, great to see you. Did I read somewhere that you are a commercial pilot now, flying jets? Congratulations!

Great point Douglas, that is one of my rationalizations for the R5, an even faster shutter speed than the 1DX MKIII. My accessories for the R5 are due in sometime this week, I asked them to wait to ship it all together. I've been doing a ton of research on the R5 because reading the actual owner reviews had me concerned about the overheating situation. My guy deep in Canon called me today and we had a long discussion about that whole situation, I feel a lot better about it after he explained Canon's thought processes. As a still camera overheating its not an issue, and really as a 4K video camera it's not much of one. the real problem comes in shooting 8K in a production setting and with specific CF Express cards. I've decided to go ahead and do my own real life tests with the recommended memory cards and the chips will fall where they may, still thinking that I'll love it.
Just for the hell of it, as I was taught by one of my Jesuit teachers ages ago, somebody has to finish last, or the whole damn group in front of em will fall through the bottom. Father English, circa 1952 . Nevertheless, to prove him correct, I will post these mundane snaps of a couple of flights today into KPHL. I've become quite attracted to the Fuji x100-400. FYI, I think the green color on the bottom of the fuselage and wings, etc., is a reflection of the grass on the approach path.

Good work Tony! You're right about the green, I have to be very careful shooting residential architecture for that very reason. If the sun is hitting the yard at just the right angle I get a green tint in the room.
Father English obviously was teaching before the participation trophy became a way of life............
