Elijah,
Welcome to the family of aviators. You are gonna have a blast, Sir. You will enjoy, be challenged by, scared shitless on occasion by, and utterly astonished as to how naturally the pilot/aircraft complex comes together. You won't be able to stop learning, and you'll get damned good at it. Choose your instructor carefully. Their probably aren't any "scarf and goggle" types left - although Jim looks like a pretty good candidate - but get one if you can. I learned on "steam gauges" and most of the time, even during training for my private they were covered up, except for the essential.
The attached picture, while no work of art, reminded me of the time I stupidly decided to engage with a front crossing V197 in the Panhandle of FL. It turned out well because I did what I was trained to do by "Red" my S&G instructor and Chuck, my Instrument Instructor, each of whom said to me the following, and God Rest Em both, the had taught me through my Private, Commercial, Instrument Rating, ME, and CFI-A. All that skill however did not eliminate my stupidity, to wit:
"Tony, when you F*** U**, and you WILL, FLY THE F'g AIRPLANE, and if you do that well, you won't need to do much with the controls...and that's because the dam plane WANTS TO FLY." I did as I was instructed, but what I didn't do was listen to the Twin Beach, mail plane pilot on the ramp at the then Werhan aviation say as he got off his plane "If you're goin' down 197, you'd better NOT. Stay here, and you'll live for tomorrow." How bad was it? Eastern Airlines on approach to TLH said to AC, "You guys, give me a vector we gotta get outta here." A testimony to how stupid I was.
Anyway, I digress....heres the pic (not posted for artistic worth)
Good luck, Elijah. You'll love bein' on this Board, and the aviators and non-flying photogs here will benefit from your presence as well.

OMG, What Did I Do???
