A good friend of ours who lives in East Texas has a pristine Skyline that he dearly loves. He lost his medical and called to see if I'd come and get it and fly it because he doesn't want it sitting. JR, Chandler and I are going down to get it when I get back in the saddle. I've missed my Skylane a lot since I made the mistake of selling it, this will be fun.

James III's Birthday is around the corner. His Dad and I assembled this present for him last week. I'm hiding it at the hangar until the big day.................
Good news about the Skylane just the job but I fear you may need a PC12 shortly. James III is going to love his new, big, yellow airplane especially when he finds out that its real, and that he can learn to fly it. Tell me, who is the Toy Tundra for? Looks ideal for a young chap .. Oh wait.
James III is going to have to contend with Chandler I and learn to share. One of the nice things about the Skylane will be the ability to take James "Up". It will be a number of years before I'd feel comfortable having him in the from or rear cockpit of the Cub by himself. He has this intense curiosity about buttons and switches ya know.........
I had an assignment last week, where I flew to Alpine, TX in a Beechcraft King Air C-90, and from there, we flew over to Pecos, NM for photos of a Bell 407.
Went back to Pecos on Friday for an air to air shoot with the Bell 407.
This sure was a lot of fun.
I want to wish everyone a very Happy Memorial Day. So extremely thankful of the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our country.
The Ninja V showed up this morning, getting it updated and figuring out ways it will fit in my systems. The scale of it is really wonderful for DSLR and if someone would happen to acquire R5..................
A beast Jim!!!!! I would need a "ammo belt loader" to help me with this!!! !!!
I to am awaiting the release of the R5!!!
Great shot and a belated Happy Memorial Day to you and ALL here!!
Dan
Good Morning Dan, and thank you, same to you! Yes, the R5, I anticipate, will be a real milestone in the Canon line. I'm looking forward to shooting with the R5 and then getting the sequel large megapixel version when they release it. The 80-100MP won't be for everyone certainly, huge file storage, weighty file sizes in retouching will tax computer processing capabilities, but I've always been in search of the highest quality imagery so it will be a welcome addition to my gear list. I would have long since invested in a 100MP Hasselblad H6D had they proven trustworthy and their longevity wasn't in question, working with those mega files would be a dream come true I'm sure.
Re: the Atomos Ninja V, is something that I've been mulling over since they announced it. Atomos makes great gear, but I'm still getting rid of the bad taste I had from being an early adopter of the first Shogun. I received one of the first ones in the US and was really excited, until it arrived. They released it too early, just about every feature and function was promised as "a firmware update", even the Shogun name looked like it was applied by a pre-schooler, then the on/off button stuck the second day of use and that was the last straw. They learned their lesson and have produced very cool technology once they worked through the set of double black eyes they rightfully got from the early Shogun.
This new V fits in a niche right below my Shogun which works well with the Sony Cinema cameras but is a bit beefy for a DSLR, Ronin S, and or mirrorless application. The V does not, at this time have SDI connections, it's all HDMI, but I do think they have thought through an SDI update with the design of a module slot on the back. What pushed me over the edge was the "Pandemic Sale", normally the V sells for $800, the sale reduced it to the $499 so I pulled the trigger. Yesterday afternoon I shot some video with the 1DXIII and the V and it looks really good. Video from a 35mm platform has a different, much more cinematic feel when compared to most larger video cameras, part of that is the shallow depth of field the lenses/sensor creates on the 35mm. That being said, it takes a different set of techniques to shoot 35mm video smoothly and successfully, I noticed several things that I need to get a handle on in the footage I shot last evening. The V is just another tool in the box, but I think it will enable me to shoot some stuff that I could not prior to having it. The image quality on the monitor is beautiful and the features and recording quality on the SSD are exceptional, well worth the price.
"This too shall pass" Part six in my "The Story Behind an Image' is now live on my blog. Come on over and read about how one devastating day nearly stopped my new found love of photography.
I've been promising JR that we would set up and photograph a series of firearms he's custom built, we did that yesterday at the hangar. This is the H&K that he built up for me for Christmas................
I don't think so, but that would be a matter of personal taste. Aside from the patriotic colors the subject and background emphasize 2nd Amendment Rights. Anyway, not a political statement, just a patriotic, colorful backdrop for JR's website, the others I tried were too catalog-is and bland. I guess if it's regularly trampled, burned, worn as a zillion items of clothing, using it as a backdrop isn't a huge transgression. That being said, given your family's service to this flag, you are more than entitled to have an opinion on the subject.
