As far as the dispensation for no photo...........that's beyond my pay grade, you'll have to take that up with a higher authority in Bahrain
Actually, I did click on the "quote" button, but just remembered that it is still the new year week, so
I was actually considering the 1DXIII, but it looks like they have confirmed it will still have the same 20 MP sensor of the 1DXII. Since I opted for the 5DIV (and its 30 MP) over the 1DXII, that nixes the 1DXIII for my purposes.
So instead I just committed to purchase a 500L II on the Buy and Sell board.
I never imagined that I would ever own a lens like that. Looking forward to spring - I recently found an active osprey nest that I can walk to from my house. And maybe an air show or two this year.
I'll be putting my first 1DXII on the market shortly, with the second one to follow once I confirm the III is "all that and a bag of chips". The 20.1 MP sensor is a slight disappointment, but it is an entirely new design so I expect a bit of quality boost from that alone. My specific need for that camera is mated up with my 200/400 and 800mm lenses at airshows. The ability to capture 5.5K RAW video is intriguing, we'll see what the hat capability might allow for. Just in case anyone in the family is thinking about upgrading to the 1DXII, I'm guessing mine will be priced in the mid-3,000 dollar range. They will come with a clean bill of health from CPS prior to delivery.
You will love your new long glass, that particular lens is a great choice and it will open new worlds to you. I look forward to seeing what you create with it.
And "thanks" to the tornadoes, bald eagles have a new hunting spot around here where they're gathering and sitting in trees, peering into the rivers below. I'm going to go wander over to see what I can see
Congrats on the 500mm lens!

Thanks Laura! It’s in NJ, I may drive down to get it and save the shipping risk. Got someone In NH that needs some Porsche body parts picked up in the vicinity of the lens, so he’ll pay for gas.

Oh, and speaking of bald eagles, there is actually a pair on the Mystic Lakes! They fish around the dam, I'll be planning to head over there and see what I can find.
The great people at OWC continue to innovate in the area of data storage. This year I will migrate all of my data, now approaching 2 Petabytes, to OWC Thunderbay 3 units. Their technology paired with the newer and more reliable helium filled drives gives me a comfort level in storage safety that I haven't experienced before.
