Took a couple days to get geek central back up and running at the hospital, but I made it through the surgery ok. The surgery was a sigmoidectomy, removing the sigmoid section of the colon which was the cause of the diverticulitis I had last summer. They got me out of bed twice on Monday, short walk to chair, then longer walk down hall. Started a clear liquid diet today.

Welcome back Laura and a speedy recovery!

I used to peruse "F Stoppers" fairly regularly, even purchased a couple of tutorials over the years, but the articles and comments have drifted (no surprise) to the artsy left and I began to lose interest. Dropped by today to see this uplifting article based on a WSJ editorial...............

https://fstoppers.com/news/photographer-listed-one-worst-jobs-us-359115

While realizing there are inescapable realities that permeate our lives, now approaching the milestone of 70, I believe now more than ever that life is what one makes it and attitude is a huge percentage of the battle. I was so discouraged by the "pro" photographers that hung around my lab all day complaining about the DFW business climate. I thought to myself, if these people who can shoot circles around me with their eyes closed can't make a living, what am I doing?! Fortunately the Good Lord sat me down and showed me that sitting around a suppliers facility throwing a pity party wasn't a successful marketing plan. I decided to find out for myself and began knocking on every door that I thought might remotely have a use for a photographer. That approach did two things, took my mind off the negatives and quickly began to fill the pipeline with work. Over the course of my career I can't tell you the number of clients that I've worked with that used to work with the photographers who sat around the lab whining about their lack of work. Has it always been a cake walk, nope, have we been scared to death on occasion, you bet, but this journey has been a dream come true, hardly the picture painted by the WSJ article and furthered by F Stoppers. You would think that a website that depends on the success of image makers to survive, might think twice about highlighting a downer piece like that, or at least combatting it with some ideas to uplift their readers. Sheesh, some people just aren't bright...........

My TOPP is the surgical hospital in AZ that was three weeks from completion, Hats off to Adobe, the intrepid designer who helped me navigate the challenge, and The Good Lord for giving me a Spirit that defies discouragement

Not too bad a result, given the challenge we faced upon arrival.............

Jim,

Did you see this article that someone posted in the comments as a reply to that ball of negativity?
It's brilliant.

Laura, welcome back. No minor surgery you underwent. Hang tough with the post-op recovery.

Lovely image Nick. Glad I know enough British lingo to know "old thing" is a good term Although I have been walking like an older person the last couple days. I've been up in the chair this morning since 0530.

Has anyone here attended Thunder Over Michigan recently? If so, any suggestions/tips?

Lovely, Nick! I've been getting cited for speeding in the hallways the last two days. You can hear the wheels of my IV pole shimmying trying to keep up with me

No beer for me! I still have pain pills to take. I will eventually celebrate with a Tootsie Roll.

The training wheels are gone, I'm free of the IV, and for lunch I graduated to turkey, mashed potatoes, carrots, and gravy. Dinner tonight is salmon. Shoes while I'm here are my Boston Red Sox crocs I bought many years ago!

Sadly, no. It was towed to the shooting location about 5:00 p.m. By the time we were set up and shooting, the crew was probably on their third or fourth tall, cool one.

For anyone who was following my testing of the new Sony RX0 II "action cam", I flew with it today. I was so pumped over the 1" sensor and the hype that I was certain it was the next great step in this line of equipment.......not so much. I think I can tell that the image quality is slightly better than the Hero7 when I pause the video, but the video footage itself has the worst CMOS jello that I think I've ever seen. I was surprised because the Sony POV's I've had for three or four years exhibit none of that. The RX II is a dismal disappointment for about three times the price of a Hero 7. Soon as B&H reopens from the longest Jewish holiday in the history of mankind, it's going back. Certainly someone is going to come up with a larger sensor action camera sooner rather than later. Even at four or five times the price of what's on the market today a camera like that would sell.

Lovely Nick, and yes I am out, staying at my daughter's for a couple days to see how things go. (She insisted) I left thank you gifts for the staff too, and no, it wasn't decks of playing cards.... We joked about that all week long.
