Does anyone have a "Hi-8" camcorder sitting around that they don't use? I have a dozen Hi-8 tapes that I need to digitize and am trying to figure out how to do it efficiently.

Once again, you have thought that they might enlist a talent that might have done some degree of justice to documenting such an event. I'm continually amazed.

I took this photo this morning in Chandler, Arizona. Heres a little guy also whom might like to meet and eat your little rodent.
Then you wont have to worry what is it, now where is it ?

Jim, I have two 8mm camcorders here, but not sure if they will play Hi-8. Any idea how I can tell? Neither says Hi-8, one uses the small cassettes so I don't think that one will work.

Nope, Albino Squirrels have all white fur and pink eyes. Google says there aren't any of these in Texas. They are in very specific areas of the country, venue as specific as particular cities, like Dixon Illinois and parts of North Carolina.
Yes, I've been following the news on that Olympus 150-400mm lens. The idea of having a high quality compact lens with an equivalent reach of 300-800mm plus a built in 1.25x teleconverter is wonderful. Unfortunately the announcement is taking these development announcements to a crazy level. "Yes, we're building this awesome lens, but it won't be available until 2020." Who's going to wait that long if they need a lens now? No-one.

Going through some older files trying to pare down my storage a little bit. Tough to do, it's going down memory lane. I don't suppose they'll mean much to anyone after I hang up the spurs though. Here's one from a series of shots I did with my good friend Drew Pearson................

Thanks Mark! The Hi8 cassettes are about a third larger than min DV 's
I have a rare Sony 8MM VCR, EV-A50 . I do not think it will play Hi-8 cassettes. A person showed me t he plactic cassettes had a small hole drilled into t he Hi-8, which he claimed was the only difference. He claimed if you drilled t hat hole in t he 8MM cassettes, t hey would play on t he Hi-8 gear, cameras and Vcrs. I was told that was BS, plain and simple. Sony did market a Hi-8 VCR , EV-A100 and they are
rare. I think only a Hi-8 machine will play your Hi-8 tapes.

Yeah, I suspect that I have a regular Video-8 camera, not a Hi-8.

The newer Digital8 corders will play Hi-8 and normal 8 cassettes, should be easier to get! The difference is the recording format thus the (backward only) compatibility.
I believe the original 8MM had one track that carried both video and sound, then i think they added two tracks to split one track for each on the Hi8 tapes.
