Wonderful news Nick! Glad you are on the mend, prayers to get you back to 110%. Heck, any our age I'd probably settle for 95% if we could get there quickly!
Yes, things haven't slowed appreciably around here up to this point, but they are going to have to for the rest of the week. Tuesday am I have a little visit with my plastic surgeon for a bit of work on a "new" spot on my nose. I'm not a fan of procedures of any type, but if I remember correctly my last visit to this guy, while he is extremely good, was not that much fun on a 1-10 scale.
Ruh-Ro!............I already owe Anwar a TOPP, better not push it!
It's a frame for some of the TS lenses - to mout the lens on the tripod so that you tilt / shift the camera rather than the lens. Apparently usefull for stiched panos. Hey, you know that helping you with the Tax thingy at this time of year is one of my favorite things!
That looks cool! Yes, nothing like getting whittled on for Christmas I am not a fan of procedures, but this stuff spooks me enough that I want it taken care of before it channels itself from my nose to my big toe and they have to remove everything between the two points. Strict orders to not lift anything heavy, or bend over for a week or so. Guess I'll use this downtime to reorganize all my digital files, fortunately 1.2 Petabytes doesn't weigh much. Come to think of it, I have to pay the property taxes on HQ by 12/31, and I'll need to bend over for that.................................
I definitely want to shoot more video, but I can't decide if I want to go to a mirrorless Nikon like the Z6 that I can put my lenses on, or do I go to a dedicated video camera like a Sony AX100, or something along those lines...
Both have definite benefits, and I just can't decide between them yet.
Wish I could help you Steven. There is so much that goes into that decision, mission, codecs, frame rate, resolutions, $$$, size. Everywhere you look there is a compromise of one sort or another. The good news is, the technology continues to develop at break neck speeds so if there isn't an answer today, just wait a month.
Over here in the south UK had a warm sunny day yesterday. Made the most of it by taking the 100-400 out of the bag for the first time since September. Boy, am I ever rusty! The low winter sun and the local SAR cab did their best for me. I managed one shot!
Ugh! Surgery done but I can think of more fun ways to spend four hours. My feeling is a guy shouldn't be awake for this kind of stuff, but it's over. My surgeon is gifted, one goes from looking like you had a run in with the mob, to barely noticeable in the end. In retrospect the annual golden tans weren't worth it..........SPF 1000 seems like a much better idea.
Well Jim ….. a “like” on that one is not quite the positive message …. sooooooo
Glad your out the other side and taking it easy – you are taking it easy aren't you?
I’ve been gathering up ideas to do a restart on my photography. I happened to pick up a UK weekly photo mag recently – I get it very seldom since it’s mostly advertising and mostly the same advertising – week after week. What caught my eye was some work by a lady called Lynne Douglas. The mag featured some images, taken with a 10 stop ND filter, and deliberately blurred. The write up was very informative, with heavy emphasis on treating the technique as very experimental. The lady lives on the Isle of Skye so she has lots of fabulous landscape to work with. Oh, and lots of wind and rain too! Take a look at https://skyebluegallery.com/ if your interested.
Having had a quick go by misusing some of my ND grads, I decided to buy a 10 stop screw in filter. No results yet – I will post when I have anything worthwhile.
Wow Nick, that women does incredible work! What a place to live and photograph!! I'll be interested in your variable ND experience, I bought a pretty pricey one a few years back and have used it a little bit.
And yes, I am taking it very, very easy. The surgery was pretty involved and I have no desire to revisit any of the steps so I'll be a very good boy until I'm told differently.
I know what you mean Erich, I can't imagine how thick the hold harmless clause is going to be for their demo flights I sent it to Chandler and his brief comment was....."No way!"
Speaking of flight, the Cub is ready to be picked up, but obviously I'm not quite up to the task (aren't Y'All proud of me?), maybe next week after they take my stitches out. Gives me some additional time to review the chapter on over aggressive use of heel brakes.........................
Jim, sorry to hear about your health issues. Skin cancer is not something you want to ignore. Hopefully, this will be the last time you have to deal with it, but since this isn't your first rodeo with it, you may want to be extra cautious with sun exposure from now on. It appears you might be prone to getting it.
Since we are discussing ailments. Friday after couple days of intense pain and discomfort, I passed a kidney stone. Less than an hour ago, after a couple more days of intense pain and discomfort, I passed a second one. Hopefully they don't come in "threes", I've had enough pain and discomfort to last me for quite a while.
Thanks Ken! I don't think I'm really prone to it, but all of those summers before we ever heard of SPF anything is apparently where a lot of the stuff showing up now gets it's genesis. These have been basal cell which is still nothing to ignore, but thankfully not any of the other categories that show up and then kill you. You're right though, I've been pretty good about sunscreen the last decade or so, but slack on the Tilly hats and UV protective clothes. Think I'll pay more attention from this point on. My surgeon, well actually I had three, the first surgeon excised the spot, second one ran the pathology, and the third (the artist) put it all back together so I won't look like I went through a windshield when all the swelling goes away. Talented as his is, my days as a nose model are most likely over....... Anyway, the first surgeon is a photographer and a drone oficianado, he discovered a basal cell on his right cheek a few days ago and has decided to gain some internet fame by doing his own procedure, via the camera on his laptop and doing it as a Facebook Live event.....................um, I mentioned that age old quote about the attorney who represents himself..................but I think he's going on ahead with it.
So, sorry to hear about your travails, never had one but I know folks that have and they describe it as childbirth like pain, not the kind with a spinal block either. Hope you are done with that and they don't come in three's! Are you getting the monster waves that I've seen reported? Surf's definitely "UP" along your coast!
The first time I passed a stone, it was definitely a 10 on the pain level. These last two times were an 8, maybe an 8.5. Still not a pleasant experience, and I hope it never happens again.
I wouldn't know about the waves. Haven't been out much, especially during the last couple days. I know they decided not to hold the Mavericks surf contest this week, I think they are waiting for more favorable consistent conditions.
