This morning, I had the opportunity to photograph a 1954 Beechcraft J-50, a twin-engine Beechcraft Bonanza. This is my first attempt at air to air and I was so thrilled to have the chance to do this.
About froze my tail off, BUT, the smile on my face kept me warm the entire flight.
I am fairly happy with my first attempt and hope to be able to do this again, very soon!
Hope everyone is having a wonderful Wednesday! I sure am.
George H.W. Bush on it's way back to the Lone Star State for the Funeral tomorrow on-board AF1
he will land at Ellington field JRB .. callsign SAM41...
Yes Jan Arie, quite a send off for our “41”, for a moment today as I watched the service at the national cathedral, I caught a glimpse of the way we should behave in this wonderful country and the world. That bit of euphoria lasted until the end of his service, then as the hearse pulled away the media transitioned from documenting the event to bashing the current administration, guess they missed the theme of HW’s service. I shut it off at that point and went to HQ to see if I could catch a glimpse of SAM 41 as they passed over on the way to Houston. I called my Grandson Hunter at A&M and told him that he might want to head over to the stadium to watch the 747 do a pass, he did and it did a beautiful race track pass over the campus. Tomorrow, the Navy plans the largest flyover in our history for an event like this, 21 fighters will honor “41” as he is laid to rest with his First Lady . “43” did his Dad proud today.
A blast from the past, the last Tomcat demo. Funny thing, Chandler was by my side on the very same flight line we now shoot together from 13 years ago, Chili was three "As the twig is bent..........."
I'm not sure, but I would guess it's this afternoon. There was a service at 41's home church this morning, then the train ride to College Station and all the logistics involved there. My Grandson Hunter is going to The Library, he's a sophomore at A&M. Our weather isn't great for the next couple of days so I'm not sure what the ceiling might do to the plans. Well, it is the Navy so I would imagine they'll fly!
It was a nice flyover. President Gerald Ford had 21 F-15E Strike Eagles from Seymour Johnson AFB in North Carolina flying missing man formation over his funeral in Michigan.

I'm going to get the most from my CPS Platinum membership this year. The 800mm is going in for a clean and tune, then I'm sending in all four bodies for sensor cleaning and tune ups. I've had three major lens rebuilds this year at 30% off as well, dues well spent!
I'm considering doing that with my D5. How much does a clean and tune run on the pro bodies? I did a lot of very dusty shooting last year, and no matter how often I clean the sensor and blow out that area I keep gettng junk on the sensor.
I'm not sure what the NPS program does for it's members, but CPS/Platinum sends me a Fed Ex overnight label (on them), guarantees me one day turn around and the clean and return to factory specs is complimentary. Platinum also gets the member 30% off of all repair work. That alone saved me a grand this year.
Is anyone in the brain trust shooting with the 70-200 III? I, of course, love the Series II as I did the I. Just wondering what edge the III might have. There are a couple of things I’m thinking of getting/updating, that’s one and the new version of the 600mm is another. Canon is supposed to send me one to play with, but I’d like to get it in my 2018 tax year so I’ll most likely buy one before I ever see their demo unit. Did that with my 800 and never regretted it, I’m sure the new 600 is stellar.
Erich, if you don't have NPS, send your D5 off to APS in Illinois. I've used them for my D3 and D700, and you can call them to get an estimate before you ship.

I am part of NPS, but I don't know if they offer that kind of complimentary service. I don't see anything like that listed in my memebrship benefits, so I emailed my NPS rep.
Yesterday, I was at the Downtown Kansas City Airport, photographing a Cessna Citation for a client of mine. While I was in town, President Trump came to town to speak to a convention of law enforcement personnel.
Here is a shot of one of the many support aircraft that travel with the President, wherever they travel. Quite impressive to see this bird drop down into this general aviation airport. When it finished its landing, it did a 180 degree turn on the runway and backtracked to a location right behind where I was shooting.
