...oh to be 30 again, but smart this time.
I'm catching up on the thread, and ran into this little gem on page 286. I cannot adequately express how strongly I identified with that feeling. Sigh... so many mistakes, so many missed opportunities...
Update for TOPP: I'm in Viņa del Mar (Chile), speaking about the importance of governance at a conference for business incubators/accelerators. I have one hard drive with photos on me, hoping to do a little post work along the way while I write three articles I have pending. And I haven't seen anything other than an airliner in a long time (though I will finally be going to Wings Over Homestead in about two weeks). So kindly bear with me, because all I have is two shots of my son on his school's soccer team. :-)
That being said, I'm proud of the kid for "wanting to get the shot" and always diving in. Certainly shows MA2A spirit! The last shot I may have shared with you all before, I don't remember. If duplicated, my apologies... but I just loved that shot and I'd rather share twice than forget to do so.

I think, pilots are very brave people. I can't do things, like them!
Welcome to MA2A, Vicki.
Most pilots want to enjoy the view, and we work hard to make sure that everything's safe so we never have to be brave. Airshow pilots are a different story... those people are brave. They're also trying to make sure everything is safe, but they accept an inherently high level of risk.
In July I've spend a week in and around Venezia. As I always do whenever I travel with family and/or friends, I leave my heavy camera gear at home and only carry an Olympus E-M1, with a zoom and a couple of small primes.
The pictures I take are really casual snapshots, nothing planned or prepared, no tripod, no waiting, just an attempt to freeze the memory.
It happens that Venezia and the surrounding islands are very photogenic so I came back with something worth sharing anyway. We walked around a lot, mostly outside the usual tourist places.
made it down to Duluth, MN for a couple hours last week on a fall color trip, wanted to hit the airport in hopes of catching some action, worked out pretty good, caught a dozen arrivals, most immediately headed to the hangars but 5 hung outside, looking like they would depart again, spent a couple hours waiting, finally gave up and headed out to do some shopping before i headed out of town again, wouldn't you know an hour later i heard them fly out so i got done what i needed to get done, picked up lunch from 5 guys burgers and went back, finished up my burger just in time to catch 6 arrivals
and yesterday at my local airport, a gas and go, this should be about finished for the year
I think Sean has some lint on his flight suit! Sheesh J-A, my razor isn't that sharp! I'd never let go of that copy of the 500, you two were meant for each other.
Those stone lions guard the entrance to "Arsenale" where ships were build, repaired and stored. It ranked as the largest factory in the world for a few centuries.
The lions themselves have an interesting story, sculpted in about 360 BC, they were looted from Piraeus, a port located within the Athens urban area, during a war between Venezia and the Ottoman Empire in 1687.
At the end of the 18th century, a Swedish diplomat visiting the place identified runic inscriptions into the shoulders of one statue. Those runes were carved by Varangians during 11th century!
