My new MacBook Pro arrived today and I'm in the process of setting it up, seems rocking fast so far. Two things that I notice right out of the gate are, fingerprint recognition for everything, no more typing a password, and Siri voice re cognition, like "Hey Siri, open Davinci Resolve". Both timesavers if they work correctly. I'm looking for reasons to love it, because it was not economical by any stretch.

I may be wrong, but if it maximises your productivity with all this newfangled Hollywood stuff then you’ll be wondering how you ever did without it, in very short order.
You are exactly right. Aside from the speed advantage I have found four or five features that are going to save me considerable time. I have to go get an adapter because my Thunderbolt 2 LaCie Rugged won't plug into the Thunderbolt 3 ports, minor inconvenience. I'm going to do some video editing tonight, that will be a big test.
Right now I'm trying to figure out how to complete a half dozen assignments with skies filled with smoke from the fires out west. We need a front to blast through but it's not likely in the near term.
Wow, I just looked up that adaptor. The “proprietary” nature of the pricing is ….. err….. prodigious.
Speaking of prodigious, from our news programmes, it looked as if half California was on fire. Those big transport fire bombers where getting a real work out. Dangerous flying, and how do you practice / stay current?
Oh yeah Nick! Just left the Apple store, I $49 for the T3 dongle and $19 each for the usb-usb-c version. So, the laptop venture is heading toward 7K Oh well, like they say, "Buy the best and only cry once..........." . I forgot to get some kind of space gray hi tech shell for the new MBP while I was there, so back tomorrow in between assignments.
I have a hunch that once I begin really working on this monster the $$$$ will just fade into the background, it might take a little longer for Sheila to feel that way.............

I haven't looked, but the entire West is dotted with significant wildfires .he smoke in our skies isn't nearly as bad today as it was yesterday, we were headed toward IFR sans clouds. Guess we had a bit of a wind shift or something, still not typical Lone Star Blue, but considerably better.
This camera looks pretty incredible, especially if one needs something a bit less bulky on a Ronin S. Once again, a little disappointed that Canon is playing catch up, or maybe not even..........
May well have a Nikon logo back in my gear bag soon.
It does look like a very good start, especially when considering the lens roadmap for next year. Even more exciting for me however is the release of the 500mm f/5.6 PF. I could never consider the 500/f4 due to its size and weight, but this should be a 500mm prime that I'll be able to carry and hand hold! Looking forward to seeing how it actually performs.

Not to start a punch up (quaint UK turn of phrase), but who would buy the Z7 in preference to a Sony – if not already invested in the Nikon eco system?
Interesting question Nick! The Sony still has a number of hiccups, although it certainly is a cool camera. I did quite a bit of research on the Sony after getting my Ronin S, but it seems they have a some wrinkles to work out as delineated by even the biggest fans. I guess the Sony has a terribly clumsy menu system for starters. Jim Koepnick and I had a long conversation on this subject a few weeks ago and he warned me off of Sony mirrorless even though he shoots with them. He did say that I should go with an A9 if I was dead set on getting a Sony, but he didn't think the investment would be worthwhile for me. He thinks the autofocus is overhyped, good, but not spectacular.
The Nikon has yet to make it into the hands of the shooting public so we don't know what peccadillos it might have. That demo reel certainly made it look good, but that's a demo reel I called my guy deep in Canon this morning and left him a message. They weren't real excited when I added the D800 into my gear box, but that's the beauty of not being anyone's "Explorer" of something, I can come and go as I please and buy the best stuff, regardless of brand.
I'm not quite ready to pre-order the Nikon, but let's see what Canon says, I'm not opposed to it either.
"Hasselblad" is a grab word, and I certainly cherished all of mine back in the day. Today "Hasselblad" is a buzzword that tries to conjure up the quality and reliability of the Professor Ernst Wildi days, and those are gone, gone. From what I read and the owners I talk to, "Hasselblad" is Japanese/venture capital speak for, what is the current jargon........mfff? , Meh? or something like that. When th people who have invested $100K are telling you to run, run.
Had an early am shoot this morning for my pool guru and then I headed to the Apple store for a case fro my MBP. As I made my way through the mall a photo gallery caught my eye so I wandered in. Turns out it's gallery of #14 for Peter Lik. Beautiful work of course, pricing on request. There were a couple of aviation related images, my first impression was that they didn't measure up to the work regularly posted here, ..............that was my last impression as well. He has some really striking landscapes and they are printed to magnificent proportions, certainly inspirational, but nothing that most here couldn't produce given the time and budget.
