All good images, Jan-Arie, though I especially like #2, #3, and #5.
Edit for TOPP: I'm on a tourist trip with the family, so there are few opportunities to put real work into an image. But here's the feeling at the Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square) as both gondoliers and tourists wind down the day.

Darnit... should have thought to say something beforehand. And I left Venice today, so I can't take your advice until our next trip in a couple of years. Would have loved to buy you a drink, Massimo.
I was in Venice with my daughter from July 8th to 15th.
Did you managed to see the fireworks on Saturday night? We had the best intentions but then started raining and the went back to the hotel...

I'm in northern Italy until 7/31; anyone who might want to meet up in Verona, Florence, Pisa, Portofino, or Milan please PM me and we'll discuss. I'll also be in Nashville and Boston very briefly between 8/1 and 8/4.
Milan is just 90 minutes away from my place, but it's quite a busy period for me and I am further north for a couple of days, in Zurich :-(
I will try two additional tourist tips, this time for Florence:
1) Museo - Opificio delle Pietre Dure
A small jewel just 2 min walk from Galleria dell'Accademia (where Michelangelo's David is on display). Most people are not aware of its existence. It's just a unique place. It's fairly small and the visit doesn't take that long: http://www.opificiodellepietredure.it/index.php?it/73/museo
Yes, my first thought was how much it looked like St. Joseph's (Laura and I went to the same church growing up).
I haven't been here much lately, seems like I'm getting busier instead of relaxing. Laura did you hurt your eye? Somehow I missed that. Hope it heals soon.
I'll be sending Rodolfo a PM, although there is a good chance right now that I'll be in Baltimore when he's in Boston. Would be great to see him, haven't gotten together since we met at Red Flag in 2010.
Yes, I had a stumble going from grass to sidewalk, first point of impact was the right corner of my right eyebrow, giving me a nice shiner and a puddle of blood on the grass, and evidently second impact was my right shoulder which has a nice bruise on it. Swelling around the eye has gone down considerably. New glasses frame is on order, using a loaner in the meantime, would not be able to drive without glasses for sure.
Hoping you and Rodolfo get to meet up.
Darn it, I didn't get a shot of the outside of the church, either. And yes, there was a lower church as well.

I was using my 500mm + 1.4x III handheld and found I could only hold it for a few seconds without a rest (admittedly I have a left shoulder joint that I have been told needs replaced) so with the x2 (which I use birdwatching) must be super unwieldly - do you use a support eg monopod?

No I don't use any support eg monopod just my arms but it's heavy at times but if the light is right like it was sunday at the the end of the day then it's very usefull..
Really hard to pick a favourite display from RIAT but I looked forward to the Couteau Delta display each day. I think it had a finesse to it and looked a complete blast to fly.
Couteau delta was the best “small” display by a mile for me, they always bring the thunder. Big team I was super disappointed that the reds won over Frecce. Frecce’s show was absolutely spot on each day.
Chandler and his siblings are in Pensacola for a five day vacation with their Dad. Chili was bummed that they landed on Monday afternoon, discovering that The Blues were in town for Pensacola I the Saturday before. I told him to keep an eye on the sky because they usually play a bit when they are home. The kids are staying right on the beach. I got a series of excited texts from Chandler late this morning as The Blues decided to do their whole routine right over the shoreline as they played in the Gulf. Chili has been around the block so he's a little tough to impress, and those of you who have spent time with him know he's a man of few words, but the texts were arriving at light speed......."Smoke!!!", "Unbelievable Vapor!!!!", "So cool............!!!!", "Wish you were here!!!!", "I've come to realize that I am happiest when there is jet noise in the background.............", "Can we go flying when I get home?" I'm still grinning................
