Brian, very touching. I'm sorry you still feel so much heartache. But Laura's right, I'm sure you'll have room for another cat someday. I often remind myself how much comfort and joy our pets bring us, and weigh that against the pain when we have to let them go. I still miss Kelsey, our German shepherd. We had to put her to sleep 5 years ago this month.
Also happy to see a couple of cat pages now. This is Kelsey's buddy Sherbet, who will be 12 this spring. Jo used her new Olympus for her cats, this was taken with my relatively new 5DIV and 16-35/4 lens on Christmas Day:

Thank you and yes, there is still a lot of heartache there
i keep telling myself how good for my health getting another cat should be, my doctor is fighting my high blood pressure, after having one heart attack now he is worried about another or a stroke if he can't get my bp under control and has even just before xmas said he is thinking of needing to send me to a cardiologist about it....and i haven't even mentioned to him the occasional pains in the chest i get i keep telling him i don't want to live forever anyways ...besides, bad tickers run rampant through my family....so i believe a cat would be a lot more comfort and better for me than all the damn pills he is shoving at me, its to the point now that i can't travel outside the country because i wouldn't have medical coverage because according to the insurance companies i am not in stable condition with all the changes in my meds, and there are just too many airshows outside of canada i need to get to

Okay, now I have to post these... I've been a cat lover all my life. I haven't had any since I was a kid. My father didn't want to keep feeding them, so one night he drove them miles away and let them out of the car and drove away. I can still see Taffy and Fluffy and their offspring looking questioningly as we drove away, and that was more than sixty years ago.
I could get one now, but I don't think it would be a wise move.
i am the same, been a cat lover all my life, just something about their independent lifestyle i like
not that i don't like dogs but, once when i was about 5 years old, at my grandparents farm, they had a dog that you were not suppose to run in front of or around, well one day my grandfather was coming in from the fields on his tractor and i ran out to meet him forgetting about the dog, well it attacked me, knocked me to the ground on my stomach and was going for the back of my neck, was told i was lucky that i landed on my stomach otherwise he would of been going for my throat...after that, well, i like dogs but the trust just is not there no matter the dog

Brian, Sammy sounds like she was a great character! You know, you never replace a cat, they're all so very different. You could think about adopting an older cat; they're often overlooked in shelters and would be less of an issue if you're worried about one outliving you.
Ernie, how heartbreaking, those poor babies. Who are the cats you posted? They're lovely. The black one looks like a real house panther.
And Mark, Sherbet looks like a right mischief maker!
Thank you and yes, she was something extremely special, while we lived in the country i had for a brief time a ragdoll, somehow in the middle of nowhere she got pregnant before i could get her fixed, but i was delighted to have all the kittens, more dlighted than Sammy was thats for sure, was funny, Sammy could get along with anything that came in the yard, bears, foxes, skunks, deer, but another cat, AND with kittens, just after the kittens were born Sammy ended up disappearing, she was gone for a month, thought i'd never see her again till...once i started finding homes for the kittens and they were pretty much gone guess who finally made her way back home so yes, she was a treasure
she had dark gray, black fur mostly, if you petted her that was the color you seen but, back comb her fur and now she was white, i took in my mostly black and dark gray cat in to get her a shaving to remove some minors mats and to keep her cooler in summer one spring, she came out a white cat from the place
yes, that is a good idea about an older cat
