Prior to the world imploding in 2008 my hangar was populated with a biplane, a 182, a T-6 and the Cub. You didn't have to be Karnak The Magnificent to see what was going to happen following November 2008, money in the bank seemed like a much better idea than a hangar full of planes so I trimmed the flight department down to fighting weight. My instincts proved correct, corporate spending on just about everything ground to a halt, aircraft owners in particular were vilified, the bigger the aircraft the more vitriol was showered upon them, and economic growth slid to negative numbers. Fortunately, that picture is finally changing.
As I mentioned a few posts back, aviation in particular is getting a long overdue boost. The tax code changes have put the whole industry into full afterburner. I can't image Glenn's schedule in the coming year with this turn of events. Every broker, manufacturer has gone from eeking out a living and flat growth rates to a demand level they cannot begin to keep up with. The people who lease the kid's hangar plan to buy two Falcon Jets in the next few months, the hangar next door is moving up to a Challenger, and my phone is blowing up from people looking for hangar space for something they have or plan to acquire in the near future. For the first time in a very, very long time anyone in aviation, at any level, is looking at a bright future....Show more →
Jim, as we turn the year over from old to new, it's great to hear of your optimism for the future. Ten years of hurt for a huge number of folks who did little or nothing to disserve what happened. I am so lucky to have been able to retire rather than having to fight my way through yet another recession. Best wishes to all in the New Year.

Oooooooo. And Santa just left a shiny new EM-1 mk2 with 12-100 lens in my grubby little mitts. Sounds like something I would enjoy using it on!
I think Santa is a fair judge - he knows who will make good use of that 12-100. When I first read the specs on that little gem I was sure that Oly had hit the bulls eye - it has to be the best one lens outfit going. Results soonest please.
I was all over the garden yesterday taking pictures left right and center, it's such an excellent combo, I love it! Here's our three cats; the only thing I did was resize them for web, otherwise these are straight out of the camera. I love the fact it tracks eyes, not just faces. Works on felines! Otherwise I haven't even got the photos into Lightroom yet... not even had it 24 hours yet so watch this space :-)

We are finalizing the ISAP Symposium details over the next couple of days and it looks like it's going to be a fun gathering. I just made my hotel reservations, we negotiated a great rate with The Tucson Doubltree, $89 for the folks who register early, and the symposium fee is more economical for early committers as well. I'll get you all of the details just as soon as we have everything set, probably Tuesday/Wednesday.
Here's sneak preview, I think Jo will enjoy this field trip, something off the aviation subject, which looks pretty cool and will present some interesting photo/video opportunities..............
I'm really looking forward to this. It's probably going to be my last outing before I schedule a knee replacement surgery, so I'll be out of commission for a while after that.

Happy new year folks. I am also ensconced in my house; we are going to bed and not fighting the idiots and the ice (ICE!!) and snow flurries (this is Texas!) outside.
Erich, good luck with the knee replacement. One of my trainers has just had that done; he is getting through the rehab but it does appear to be some process.
Saturday night.... -18F with wind chills approaching -40F, doesn't take more than a few mintues before the camera, lens, tripod are just too cold to handle
photography....it's not just a job....it's an adventure
