Merry Christmas everyone and I hope each of you have a great and prosperous New Year!
Jim,
The home is beautiful. A very inviting home for a Christmas celebration!
You also hit the nail on the head about the iphone and the dumbing down of society. The good thing is that some of us recognize that the excuse for a camera in that piece of technology is not a replacement for a quality camera.
Thanks Joe, we sure love it! I used to spend a couple of weeks decking it out for Christmas, but there just isn't time now and we're migrating to more of an elegant "transitional" feel. The kids have grown to the point where they aren't mesmerized by Snow Villages and the like anymore, kind of makes me sad, but I don't miss the hours of set up and tear down.
Yesterday I had to make a quick run out to the cemetery after the news broke that someone had crashed the fence and run over 30 graves, then ran away from the vehicle. The section that got hit was close to where he's buried. I'm thankful that nobody was there when this occurred, but I'm hoping they catch this person.
Wreathes were distributed last week, but not all graves got them, not sure what the criteria was for distribution.
Alchohol involved I would guess. Surprising that there's not a security camera somewhere, everything is on a camera these days. And...................what Dan said!
Counting our blessings, we've had two of our Grandchildren involved in car accidents in as many days. Everyone is fine, just a little sore and a little sad about their vehicles, but I'll take that outcome. The driving gets more like bumper cars every day around here, it's ridiculous. Having driven thousands of miles in parts of the country where they have real weather, it continues to amaze me that rain in some regions causes as many accidents as a foot of snow and ice in others. Everyone's in a big hurry to get nowhere fast.
Alcohol or phone distraction for sure. I'm just happy that there were no visitors there when it happened. WAA also did Dayton's, but not every grave was the recipient. I'm going back later to decorate. I suspect there are cameras, but not in this area.
This link shows the location, though the satellite image is a bit old, that section is now full. https://goo.gl/maps/1dYnFfjseqC2
Hoping to hear of an arrest soon.

Great way to honor the fallen. Here in the DC area, Wreaths Across America does Arlington every year!

And someone hit and ran? WOW!!! Spineless bastard!

I completely understand, Jim, it's been two years since my beloved car got totaled, but it did its job and protected me from that 45mph broadside hit. Glad everyone was physically unscathed. Some of that uptick in accidents when there's rain is probably due to the oils on the road getting slick with water on top.

Contrary to what Apple would like us all to believe, and in keeping with what I tell my Grands......."An iPhone is NOT a camera......even the much lauded iPhone X, cool but NOT a camera! I see it as just another plank in the dumbing down of society, email caused grammar and spelling to get sloppy, texting took it to a new low, the web has opened up a new window where we can be uncivil with one another, semi-anonymously, and the "camera" in your phone has become acceptable quality because it's convenient. I'm not a conspiracy type guy, but some things are just too obvious to ignore...........
Sheesh! One only has to watch five minutes of "The Queen" to see how far language has devolved, it was art then, now it's less than chopped liver in comparison....Show more →
I've been having a back and forth with the good folks at Kenyon Labs today, they are fascinated with the design of my stabilizing rig so we've been brainstorming different gyro combinations and possible benefits/drawbacks. I am going to stick with my dual 8x8 original plan. The gentleman I was brainstorming with is the company owner and intimately involved in the design and evolution of Kenyon products. The 4x4 and 6x6 are outstanding products, but something I didn't know is that when you go up the ladder to the 8x8 and above, the wheels are made out of Tungsten and they spin considerably faster than the other product's wheels. The 8x8 generates twice the stabilization of the 6x6 and is much more durable over time.
During the design and fabrication of my stabilizing rig I experimented with an 8x8 on the front bayonet and a 6x6 on the back, which resulted in a slightly nose down bias of the camera position, kind of a plus. I can get the same bias by adjusting my camera mount plate, but it is a perfect position with the 6 + 8 combo right out of the box. According to my friend the engineer, the double 8x8 system is going to be magical compared to anything that I have shot with previously. I can hardly wait to get it in the air! The second 8x8 will arrive next week and that's when the rig is supposed to be done at the Cerakote shop, so things should work out nicely.
I am pretty sure no one knows about this or it would surely have popped up here, but our friend Pat Gould was involved in a plane crash December 13th. The details are still not clear but he was flying a twin turbo prop like the one he has posted images of many times and it lost altitude and struck the terrain on initial climb out. Pat emails me on occasion and we follow each other on Facebook. He's home with his family and has a miraculous story to tell of God's Grace and protection.
