The mantle of "first son" and "first grandson" can sometimes be a heavy burden. Odin carries it well. A informal portrait taken in my living room that enjoys my version of a master's north-facing window.

Just got a text from my guy inside Apple. my iMac Pro ships 12/14!! 18 Core! Wonder if the lights in the neighborhood will dim when I fire it up?
I've been seriously considering one. I want to stay Mac but don't want to wait for the new MacPro whenever they come out some time next year, and especially the new video card options have me very tempted. Getting more into compositing I really notice how slow my current 21" iMac is. Which video card option did you go with? Be sure to give us your impressions once you stress test it a bit.
Happened to be by NAS Fort Worth this week and something was actually flying.
(although according my buddies around the airfield, Lockheed has been flying F-35's every day, multiple aircraft, trying to get some of the backlog airborne and "delivered" by years end, if you are near by this is a good time to catch some lightning )
Great captures Zane! That looks like a super spot to shoot from. BTW, I'm working on the deal we discussed, and I'm talking with the top of the food chain so I'll have a decision for you. Can you email me a link to a typical feature that you have done so I can present an example if I'm asked?

Hi Jeff. Thanks for posting that! Very nice the way you got the eye sharp and positioned so that the large out of focus area in the foreground compliments rather than distracts. Bravo! I can only imagine the high level, protracted negotiations needed to get the young gent to stay still for a few moments. If it where politics that would need a BBJ full of cashmere suits and talks about talks!

Thanks Nick. My grandkids are patient with me and my "old" Hasselblad. They've learned that if they will give me 5 minutes of their attention, I'll quit taking photographs. Their patience notwithstanding, a trip to the local soda shop is often an subject of negotiation
The 14th has arrived, but we are doing some reconfiguring on my iMac Pro order. Availability being one reason and parsing how much is "enough" for my applications. This new "Pro" iteration has rocketed a loaded iMac from 4 grand to 15. I don't necessarily mind that, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to invest thousands extra if my applications can't utilize the horsepower.
My Apple guy is working on getting a couple of questions answered before I bring a wheel barrow of cash down to the store

Well .... that's a serious sounding machine! On the other hand, given what your doing video wise, it's not so bad. Last I looked (a loooong time ago) a full on Silicone Graphics workstation was north of 100 grand, so a mass market machine with that kind of power is something of a marvel. I'm very interested in the spec you finally come up with.

A trip to the soda shop ..... never expected that ..... much.
Just a heads up to Canon big white owners on the forum. I was on the phone with CPS and all version 1 IS 300,400,500,600 are not going to be serviced after Dec 31st. They will do a clean and check, but anything sent in for repair will be returned to you. And many parts are not available at this time. You will also not have any CPS points for these anymore. 😂😂😂😂✌🏻
Grrr.....that's unbelievable! They sold them for so long, there are bunches of them out there.
Grrrr.

Zane, yeah I have three of those! A lot of nature guys I know are a little unhappy. They originally gave me the heads up and I called CPS. But it’s a 1999 design. And I think maybe a tsunami in there played a role in parts.

I now know why there is not a dislike button.

Yeah just got me a IS1 series 500mm as if most people have a couple of thousand spare laying around on their bank account just plain bad service from Canon....
And it’s not that they need a lot of repair.............. unless you drop it, fall down and go boom, or open the car door and it was leaning against it.

I had mine in the shop last year, the bearing cage in the slide part of the barrel came apart and the zoom would lock up, all kinds of funky grinding noise ensued. $250 to fix.
No drops, leans, mashes, Just wear... after 3 years on a $1600 part that should last...but alas I don't think anything except the B-52 will out live us anymore.
