They were very cool and bad to the bone Joe. Apparently a B1 level maintenance nightmare, but cool.
I met one of my dad's high school buddies late in life, a Marine aviator that did a combat tour then worked with Corky Meyer at Grumman as a Hellcat test pilot (probably, production test and acceptance? I never asked...). His last plane was the Tomcat development program. I couldn't help but blurt, "What a career!" He had no words (more likely, too many). He slowly shook his head and grinned. I grew up seeing them come out of Calverton, then hearing the boom-boom, going supersonic offshore. (Can't help thinking of Dick "Head" Cheney when I see one, though.) 30 year old Iron Works planes are still in service.

Some years ago there was a 262 from WW11 setting alsone the enterance road into a VA medical center in Eastern PA. I assume it was the gutted outer surfaces only.

Thanks Harry! As I stated, I have only seen them on the "telly". I am glad that some are still around.
Military eqpt history needs to be saved and admired.
While the new jets are sleek and fast, I prefer the old prop aircraft for admiration.
The "drivers" also need recognition, both then and now! A hearty bunch they be!
Thanks again Harry! and WELCOME HOME BROTHER! WE FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT!

On a whim I picked up an RF 2x Extender to use with the 70-200 Z. Not much flying around but there was a stately Texas mockingbird on the pole, so he became the subject at 400mm. First photo is the original, the second is about a 100% crop version from a virtual copy.
For the first time in Canon (or any manufacturer's) history the RF 2X is a great performer. I have all the previous "paperweights" in a tub someplace and they aren't worth anything. I have compared the overall performance to a new RF800mm and it is close to indistinguishable..........$18000.00 saved.....................
A couple of posts talking about the 2X caught my attention. I wondered how it would work on the 70-200 Z so I could use that instead of the 100-400 with the extending barrel for field sports. I am at the same aperture, the weight is about the same and I don't have an extending barrel when I am up against a fence at a softball/baseball game. It also buys me some time before I buy the 100-500.
Thanks Rodolfo-
Owner loved em and did 4 different colors...Blue turned out the best.

Another project for my B-25 shoot coming up in the next week or two...
I'm going to have an opportunity to play with the R1 for a few days. I'm doing it out of mild curiosity, the R5II is such a beast that I don't really see what the R1 could bring to the table, 40 frames a second instead of 30? The focusing system is supposed to be a hair faster and more accurate, but there is that 50mp v 24 that is the elephant in the room.
Competitive is bringing back the Hasselblad line, and while nostalgia draws me back to them on occasion, the commercial value/RTI just isn't there. And, they aren't "Hasselblad" as I knew Hasselblad. Unless you are Liebowitz and they give them to you I'm afraid that ship has sailed.

...plus the $2600 additional cost for the R1 with 24mp!
Just looked at the Canon site for the R1...less than 4 star average in the reviews! That has to be a first for a Canon "Professional" series camera!
I think Canon outsmarted themselves when they created the R5 MKII with all the features that it has. I'm sure that the R1 is a great camera, a fitting evolution of the 1DX series, but why would one spend the extra money when the II does what it does? Maybe the integrated bod/battery pack? Sports shooters don't need 50 mp? I'll play with it and see what I can see.
I had the R3 for a bit but nothing compared to the R5.
Can't wait to get an R5II, maybe black friday they will blow them out as they are 1k cheaper then when they first came out.
Of course the Mav 4 Pro is out now as well. --
This is not Sim. I think it's some variation of a Falcon Jet, but I'm not sure. So, I'll change the title w/ a correction and thanks . I have my new, relatively El-cheapo lens for taking pics from long distance, my XH2 v.2 and Sigma's 100-400/5.0-6.3 w/IS. I've used CapOnePro latest edition. Taken at "high noon" at KPHL on Hog Island road for those of you familiar with that area.
