I finally found a willing subject to test my 200-800 on. While the lighting in the first two was sub-optimal and I was a little behind in the third one, I have to say that I am very impressed with the sharpness and detail at 800mm, especially as there was considerable cropping. I wonder how I'll keep up with the peregrines

T-33 is a fun little jet. I worked on them in the 1970's and early 80's. We sent our last three to Mexico. As the second pilot was preparing for taxi, he thought he was closing his cockpit, instead he jettisoned his outboard tanks. They were shut down for a day while the fire department hosed down the jet fuel. I wonder how many hops he had to make with no tip tanks?
OK, to be fair, and not pick on the Mexican Air Force, We had a T-33 shuttling a flight surgeon from San Antonio to Ellington for weekend drill on a February Friday night. He wanted to get some night flight time from the back seat so he reached to adjust the rudder pedals. Instead of adjusting the rudder pedals, he ejected the canopy. The pilot said it was the coldest he had ever been. They were at the halfway point so they continued to Houston. I don't think we ever recovered the canopy.

Much as I love the 100-500 and the 200-800, when I shoot something with the RF600/4, I realize that it is in a class by itself.............
The bokeh is fantastic Jim!

Beautiful compositions Gero. If you don't mind a day trip, I recommend Blackwater WLR near Easton. Photography is fantastic and good food also!
If time permits, head to Tilghman Is and take the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry..Eat at the Robt Morris Inn. Years ago one could possibly see James Michener seated on the benches writing. On the road from Easton to Oxford(Rt333) you will pass a huge estate with a long driveway...The owner has peacocks guarding the house. They run loose and are easily visible.

Very nice, Gero! Enjoy the new lens. Conowingo is getting busy with bald eagles but I went to NJ this morning to shoot the ospreys with my new 400-800. I am really bad at tracking the ospreys diving into the water, couldn't keep them in the view finder.

Beautiful set, Douglas. I have found the osprey to be challenging as tracking vertically is much more challenging than the smooth tracking I can get on eagles by turning my torso. Beautiful lighting and poses in these.
I’ve been glancing at the Dyess wx, second guessing myself. The current weather is showing a 45 knot wind shear at 200’, now that would make for an interesting performance.
One thing I have to get used to with the 200-800 is that, unlike my EF 100-400 II and its quarter turn from one end the other, the 200-800 requires a bit more turn to get to 800. I keep wondering why I'm just at 350
Went to Conowingo for bald eagles this afternoon, not much action, too far away. Got this cormorant and catfish, heavily cropped, maybe only 5% of the frame left.

I've been very busy with life, and just haven't had time to post anything, lately.
Photographed this Falcon 7X about a month ago, and the owner is upgrading to a new Gulfstream G-550.
Last week, went out to California and photographed two G-650's, as the company that owns those, are getting two, brand new
G-800's, which were just certified, last week.
Heading to Kansas City, and Austin this week.
Hope everyone is doing well and having a great weekend.
