Fair enough, I'm a huge fan of steaks and BBQ myself so I'm being a bit hypocritical I suppose. Now bull fighting, that's different story, I cheer when the bullfighters get gored!
I have been to many rodeos in my life. I have never seen an injured animal. I have seen many cowboys carted off on stretchers and gurneys. The best were the old Texas Prison Rodeos in Huntsville, TX. All the cowboys were prisoners hoping to place in their event to win money (an important commodity in prison). Those guys had no fear and many got gored, kicked and stomped on during the bull riding. Then there were the broken limbs from being thrown from the bucking broncos. Having just returned from Rome and walking through the Colosseum, I am thinking it was a 20th century version of the gladiators, well, without the calls for mercy or death. Those Prison Rodeos were fast paced, crowded and no big super stars singing on a stage, just raw brutality.
I'll bet those were free for all's Ray, nuthin' to lose. None of the calves seemed bothered by the event, but as the evening wore on and the Cerveza took effect, several of the participants found their faces in the dirt.

I picked up an RF 200-800 at my local shop this afternoon, just in time for a weekend of crappy weather. Even at 800, it feels balanced and a heck of a lot lighter than my EF 500 f/4 (I think the zoom weighs half as much). Look forward to sharing some images with the gang.
Jim, have you had any issues with the lack of a focus limiter on this lens?
I have to say it almost sounds weird to say local shop, for a number of years now, there has only been one camera/photography store here in Baltimore, and it's nice to give them the business. If you're ever in town here, pay them a visit - Service Photo....Show more →
I will 2nd Gero's recommendation. I have used them for about 30 some years.

Shot something fun yesterday. I tagged along with two of our Granddaughters to a friend's rodeo. They hold this rodeo once a month all year long and participants come from all over the country. When I got there I saw that the light wasn't going to favor me so I did some mental gymnastics and made the most of what I had. I wasn't there five minutes and I was over run with request to by the images that I was shooting. Four hours later the entire roster of participants had asked for my information and how they could buy prints from me. The rodeo sponsors have now asked me if I could come back every month. I did eat and inhale a yard or two of Texas dust, but it was fun, and apparently luctrative..................Show more →
For those of you in Mary-land or near, I will recommend J Bar W Ranch for bull riding and rodeos. A fun place and lots to shoot!

The Falcon 900 is owned by a new client, a multi-billion dollar earth moving company. They were returning from a trip to The Turks &Caicos with a load of clients. That jet is a pretty great tool to make clients for life with.

Obviously due to the flying dust and dirt, I put lenses on bodies at the rodeo and kept them there. The 100-500, 70-200Z and the 24-105Z served me well.

Gee Dan, as close as you are to DC, I'd think that there would be a surplus of "BS".................

few more from Sun N Fun, they may look similar but they are different frames in the same sequence. I like the frames with some clouds instead of just plain sky. The last shot was the SpaceX launch. The launch pad is very very far away even though where I was is supposedly the closest location.
JIII wasn't 30 seconds into his first helicopter ride when he asked if he could have something to shoot with.....................couldn't have been more proud!
