Dont be sorry Glenn. MA2A is a "family"! We interact, maybe not everyone to 1 or a bunch of specific people, all the time, but none-the-less great interaction!
I know everyone appreciates members keeping everyone up to date on anything!
Thanks!

Hope eveybody is doing well! Occasionally do some local photo shooting but not near as much as I wish...miss you guys and hanging out on the ramps!

Holy cow Glenn, those girls have grown up...well, except for Nadia, she is still youthful and fun loving!

The plane he ordered from Europe was his Pipistrel I think, it tried to kill him several times, but he was too good for it to get him. He always kept it at HQ when he came in for Alliance. One morning before he headed back to Colorado we had breakfast and when we got back to the hangar he asked if I'd like to go fly it, gracious as the invitation was, I declined. The aircraft had several fuel system quirks that caused it to quit unexpectedly. Steve, being the engineer that he was, thought trouble shooting that in the air was fun....................

Yes we still have the memories, that was quite an eventful evening from the moment I read the message.
Shot Jo a quick message and then Steven Zsabo to say that Steve had passed.
Talked to Rich Cooper from the UK to say the he had passed.
When ready for bed I got a message from Kevin Hong he also got word that Steve passed.
Then Steve's son posted the official message.
There are quite a lot of people that paid their respects on various sites.
He was loved all around the communities.
I'm not the believing type of guy, but I hope he is with Jay now taking some killer photo's

On another note, don't know how many active Isap members are around here.
They are working on some event Kevin told me, he asked if I would come over.
But with the physical complaints and the fact that everything is crazy expensive over here at the moment that is not going to happen.
For know I want to wish you all a good weekend..

J.A.

Hope you are having a good day in The Netherlands Jan-Arie. Thank you for your post, we sure did have some good times together, in the air and on the ground. The best we can do is fondly remember and be grateful for the friends we've made and the one's we've lost. I've lost them to horrible lingering illnesses and to instantly smoking holes, not sure which is worse. Let's cherish the ones that we can still communicate with and enjoy the gift of their friendship. Personally, I feel that you are one of the dearest people I have ever had the Blessing to call my friend, and share a pair of jeans with You take care of yourself Bud, hope that we get to shoot and have a burger together again at some point.

I feel like we have a new small member coming up the ranks. This morning, while Sheila and I were at church, JR sent me a text with a picture of James III scrolling through the images on one of my R5II's that I left on the kitchen counter. We have developed a ritual now when he comes over, he instantly wants to go photograph birds in the back yard. James was looking at my camera to see if I shot any pictures without him, which is verboten........... Doubt if there are too many six year olds wielding an R5II/RF100-500 around, but he's doing a great job.

Morehead City NC Sunset capture raw directly out of Canon R5II with zero post processing or cropping. (resized to fit on screen). This camera continues to amaze me.

Beautiful Chas! I agree, I honestly, for the first time, can't really think of much more they could have packed into that camera. I'm looking forward to shooting Barksdale and Nellis with it in March. I guess it could be 100mp, but this camera has so much packed into it, and with the lenses available, even that isn't nearly as important as it once was.

Dad had a box of Kodachrome 25 I scanned years ago (please excuse the dust). He was CFC on B-29s and worked at Aramco in Saudi Arabia after the war. The planes are the postwar oddities that little regional airlines used like tramp steamers. Aramco had its own DC-4 for getting people back to the States, too. Test your knowledge of aircraft

When I saw the first photo I immediately thought of the B-24 and began looking for variants which led to the C-87. The second photo looked like a DC-4, but it had a twin or triple tail. Sure enough I found the DC-4E had a triple tail. Anyway, you throw darts you don't always hit the target.

Jim, Thanks for the comment. I have a favor to ask. Could you share the settings you use for airshow photography with the R5II. I am doing a lot of experimenting, but the complexity of the camera and the shear number of possible combinations is daunting. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

Chas

Hi Chas, you bet!

Most of the time I'm shooting in TV (shutter priority) mode, AF is in servo with a frame rate to suit the circumstances. Subject is usually vehicles, but if the camera doesn't seem to be responding properly I revert to "none". My technique with AF is to capture the subject with the shutter button half pressed, then lock it on and track it with the back button focus. That takes some practice because you'll find yourself bouncing back and forth between those two buttons as the camera might lose the subject , or you want to re-acquire it. Typically my ISO is 100, but I'm not afraid of ratcheting it up if the scenario calls for it.

That about sums it up, please let me know if I missed something, or you need me to drill deeper into any area for you. Hope it helps. Don't be bashful, glad to help you get the most out of your great new tool.

Today was a bit of a fire drill, I was planning on taking the Cub over to the factory in East Texas for it's annual on Tuesday, but they called me this morning to see if I could bring it over this afternoon. A quick call to my Buddy with the R44 in my hangar and we were on our way. I launched first because he is about 10 knots faster than me. The winds at McKinney were higher than forecast and at much more of a cross than they were calling, not a problem on departure, but a bit of a concern on arrival . The flight over was the typical mid-afternoon, cork in the ocean ride that Cubs give you on a thermally day, dodged a couple dozen Turkey Vultures along the way. My favorite approach to Sulphur Springs is and arc across the NW corner of the lake, swooping down to the north end of the grass strip, keeping the speed up a bit so you don't get cut short if it would happen to quit on approach for some odd reason. Done correctly the last part of the arc to the grass puts you above the lake at about 100 feet. I could see that the wild hogs had been having a field day on the runway, but I dodged the damage and my wheels were rolling on the wet grass before I knew it.

Tim and I got back to McKinney as the sun was getting low and just in time to catch single seater Super Hornet from the West Coast launching out for NAS Oceana. All in all, a great day!
