Man, now that I look at that AA 777 shot, that tight crop was just perfect, a second either way would have been a bust, R5II for the win!
Nice of them to let you park on the piano keys!!!! I am loving my R5II also, in spite of my learning curve deficiencies. No recent aviation, but a recent granddaughter image of my # 8 grandchild.

The sports editor sent me an assignment Monday for Wednesday, yesterday. He gave me all kinds of instructions that it needed to be a landscape shot but the composition had to be vertical. It began with 9 high school seniors who were signing college sports scholarship commitments. Then it grew to 11. He continued sending me messages about the composition and how they should be seated for a head on shot. I told him I would deliver what he wanted, but it wouldn't be a "head on" photo. Well, I could tell he was worried. I called the district PR guy who told the athletic director what I wanted to do. They had the signing in the school library where they had a lot of room. I asked if they had a ladder available so I could get an elevated shot of the large group. He told me they didn't but there was a loft. This was great.
The editor's original intent was to have the photo in a sideline column on the second or third page in the Sports Section. I was very surprised to find the photo as the center spread on the front page of the Sports Section. I used the 5DC and 24-70 lens. By the way, there were three other schools signing photos on page 3 in black and white. I guess he liked the photo.
Flew to Dallas Fort Worth for a quick business trip on Tuesday, seemed like I brought cold weather to Texas every time. It was freezing cold and windy. Last month I brought the snow storm with me to Houston even though I got out the day before the snow hit. This time I got to try the BBQ at a place called “Heim”, most excellent!

Here is one of mine with the EF 800 on an astro modified R7.
Most excellent, Gero! I haven’t shot the moon for a long time. Always had trouble with the depth of field, even at f8. May try a narrower aperture next time.

Dan,
thanks for the memory - that was a long time ago and I think it predates the fisherman's pier. Here is the original of what i sent you - remote plugged into the camera and it worked like a charm. Used to get some funny looks from the Secret Service when I took that to the office in DC to go to the pool on the Mall to practice my BiF tracking
I was wondering which part of Conowingo that was because I never saw this platform in the picture before.

Heim is great! BBQ, like so many other items, has gone through the roof. I had a sliced beef sandwich, potato salad and a coke there a few weeks ago, I think it was north of 28 bucks. Went to Hutchins in McKinney with a Buddy and had Ribs, a side and a drink the tab was right at $70.

I cooked a brisket for a family mourning a lost loved one. The untrimmed brisket was around $85 at H-E-B. I quit cooking my marinated center cut tenderloins because they are $40/pound. I have been forced to make my burnt ends with pork bellies vs brisket due to the price. Good grief Texas, every time I turn a corner on the road there are cows or a hay field. Why is beef so high here? I know the cheapest gas is right outside the Shell and Exxon refineries in Deer Park and Baytown, not the same for beef in Texas.
Thank you for sharing the news, informing us. It is truly sad, Steve was everything you said and more. I fondly remember his posts, affection for his Tesla which we would have long conversations about in the background. I am life long Fuel System Engineer and we could banter forever on Electric vs IC engines.
I also remember fondly when I shared on MA2A that I was going out to Colorado once. Via IM I received a phone number, address, and note making it very clear that if I needed anything, help and a friendly face was just a call away. All from a man I only knew through a keyboard and had never shaken his hand.
People like that will be missed. I have also learned in the last few years when you get an invite like that change your route and take some time. We are all mortal and it's the experiences that we have, share, that make us most human and special.
Prayers and condolences to all who knew Steve Z.

Folks, I haven't been around for a while and I apologize if I'm just repeating terrible news...
I just found out that one of the best humans I've ever met, the inimitable Steve Zimmerman (steve here on FM) passed away last weekend after a yearslong battle with cancer.
I've never seen anyone meet Steve and not love him. A talented entrepreneur, engineer, photographer, pilot, friend, owner (for his dog) and partner (for his beloved Marcia), one of the smartest and wisest men I've ever crossed paths with, one of my best friends (despite this being mostly online) for the last 17 years, one of the best shooters on this thread, and a man who was nevertheless one of the humblest, nicest, and kindest humans I've ever known. An inspiration and an example to me, and many others, and one whose memory I will cherish until I get to shoot with him again.
I know the heavens are celebrating that he has joined them. But my heart broke reading the news....Show more →

And you didn't bring some back in your "carry on" for me Douglas

This was in the late 1990's Douglas...before Conowingo was a photo mob area!
Most everyone knew everybody there and all the FM'rs as well.
The "dam" grounds crew built the present platform in 200?.....

Hi folks! Hate to come by for such a terrible reason but I thought there maybe some SteveZ discussing...He was an really unique guy and great friend over the years that started here in MA2A like many other great friendships.
Was really happy to see how well and long he was able to continue living after his original diagnosis. Was lucky enough to get a visit from him down here in Texas the past April when he flew down for the eclipse and got do to a quick photo shoot with his awesome DA62.
Hope eveybody is doing well! I'm on leave from Spirit Airlines flying the Airbus while they handle their bankruptcy and doing the corporate Citation flying thing (which is way better than airline life anyways) and just trying to keep my head above water with these 4 ladies keeping us pretty busy. 1 in college at Arkansas University, and 2 in high school. Occasionally do some local photo shooting but not near as much as I wish...miss you guys and hanging out on the ramps!
Beautiful and wonderful posts and pictures Glenn, a great send off for Steve here on MA2A.

I think Steve was the one that ordered a plane from the UK or overseas about 10 years or more ago ?
