Don't sweat it Bill, you will love the R3. Eye controlled AF is crazy good. You can't put your life on hold waiting for the next big release. My guy seems to think I'll have the R5II very shortly after the announcement, we'll see. Truthfully, I am more excited about the C400 in the fall.

Ya, the eye control and one button you can push and it just tracks that subject while you move the camera all around is pretty neat. Most everything else is like the R5 other than MP...Which I miss.
That's not a problem for some, but after the R5 sensor size, it was a deal breaker for me. 50% crop on an R5 image still leaves you with an image that is larger than the R3 at full res, same crop on the R3 gives you 12mp +-, and that's weak for a display print of any size.
When Canon sent me an R3, just a few weeks prior to my two arriving, I was blown away by the eye tracking feature, so simple and intuitive. Looking forward to having that on the R5II. Depending on what I find in the II shakedown, I may just sell my R5 and get a second II to standardize. R5C/and two II's would make up a strong line up. Normally I have had four bodies so I could put a lens on each one and not have to change in the field at air shows. I'm not shooting much air show work these days, seems my schedule is just not a good fit anymore, so three bodies should be more than enough. I don't think the R1 is going to hold any interest for me at all, those funds can go toward the C400 and be much more productive there.

Hate to say it but if it doesn't pan out I'll be getting another R5 as it's a great camera or maybe the R5II
Not a bad strategy at all Bill, you won't lose any money on it for sure. The R5II is supposed to have done away with any blackout during high frame rate panning, which is about my only complaint with the R5 I.
At 5 p.m. on July 13 it is 88° in Central Texas with a cool breeze. We are use to 100° weather this time of year. We ate dinner on the front porch yesterday and may do it again today! So nice outside.
