Sorry to hear of Bud's passing, he was a wonderful human being. A few years ago I had an "Old Crow" section of nose art created. I called Bud to ask if he'd sign it for me, he said "sure!". The panel is on the wall at HQ.
I think that I mentioned this previously, when they called me for this assignment I was all in and ready to go all "Glyn Dewis" on these portraits. I had all my gear organized and the lighting planned to perfection. When I arrived at the first gentleman's home I realized that, for a number of reasons, all that claptrap was just not going to be feasible. The time to set up, the disruption, space available, just too much for these elderly subjects. Fortunately I had thought through multiple scenarios so I was prepared to go the simple route as well, my beloved 85/1.2 and north window light served me well. The lighting I had hoped and planned for would have been wonderful, but you have to recognize the realities of your situation and adapt.
Jim,
I'm not sure your "claptrap" could have given you better lighting than the natural light you got along with the exceptional quality that is the 85. Beautiful portraits.
Aaron Taylor was showing off his Super Stearman (450 hp) at KTPL. The announcer said he lives in Salado and parks his planes at KTPL. I live two miles from the runway and have never seen his T-6 or Stearman in the pattern. (Our farm is about 2 miles on the other side of his tailwheel.)
Looks like you joined the crowds at Hillsboro Bill. Nice shots. I had a photo shoot out that way Friday. When practice started, airspace went red and I was forced to use my Canon.

Jim as a combat veteran, these are sensational. Extremely personal showing the prime example of why men serve! Just extremely well done photography!
To say you did these heroes proud is an understatement!
Just pure enjoyment!
Thank you Dan and Gero, it was an honor . gerov wrote:

Ow that's cool, I'm in Germany then visiting the Tigermeet and a quick trip to Berlin.
If the weather cooperates you won't be disappointed.
I have a little project in Sondersburg, Denmark on Tuesday June 4 and Thursday, June 6, I was going to spend Wednesday visiting Flensburg In Germany. Now I just read about the airshow in Berlin, which is 500 kms from Sondersburg in Denmark, I am wondering if I should drive to Berlin on Tuesday night, watch the airshow on Wednesday, drive back to Sondersburd Wednesday night and be ready for my project on Thursday. It's a lot of driving but I am used to doing those crazy day trips.. The flight performers list at the Berlin show seems to be very short, the only thing that interests me is the Euro Thyphoon, I have never seen one, on the ground or in the air. Not sure if it's worth driving 1000 kms just to see that... Wednesday June 5 is the only day I can go to Berlin.

Well Douglas, you could rent a Porsche 911 Carrrera GTS (192 mph) to speed you along.

Thanks J-A. That saved my $$$$ renting the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS as Ray suggested. In all seriousness, I don't think I have the skill to drive that fast. I did drive on the autobahn a couple times, the fastest I did was 230 km/h. It was always a pleasure driving in some European countries, basically no left lane campers. I have road rage when I see people here driving on the left lane at speed limit for no reason other than being inconsiderate and an axxhole.
