Wow, how do you take the time and effort to apply that paint scheme on an aircraft and not give it a bath before a dog and pony show? In addition, I guess the Marines use a lot of discretion when they count the number of hydraulic drips/minute so they don't have to write the leak up. (I am hoping that is not from fuel.)

Nevertheless, great shots Douglas.

Dam Douglas, love them F-18's and the paint job...Beautiful work.
Got a few coming up this weekend to shoot.
.
And the wing touch, geez, good recovery on their end and luckily they were over the ocean if it got bad.

Thank you gentlemen!

Ray, I didn't even pay attention until you pointed it out, now I can't unsee it.

Sorry about that. Anytime we sent an aircraft to an air show or for a special ride (news media, USAF Academy recruiting) we would send a freshly washed aircraft. We had our unit livery painted all over our jets and it was personal.

Thanks Jim! Your clone effort is about what I was able to do. I don't like the artifacts/distortion left behind. I tried a thin clone tool along each power line, but I could still see a "ghost" or something where the lines were. Maybe more passes would have helped.

Thank you Bill! Good luck with the shoot this weekend!

The Blues.... I need to try to be more creative in shooting the Blues, instead of making the same compositions 5 times a year. But it's hard to do unless they let me stand on the end of the runway like Jim.

Now I am seeing more and more how heat shimmering can do to images. Without it the images taken even with the zoom lenses can be sharp as tack but when it's present, it just ruins

Thank you, Bill and Dan!

Bill, out of curiosity I checked out the lineup for the show you are going to this weekend, great stuff!! Hope the F-16 demo is the jet with the viper paint scheme, not just a plain jane grey one. The night show could be interesting. They got quite a few warbirds too! I was never a fan of shooting warbirds because it's so difficult for me to get a few sharp pictures at the desired shutter speed. I think at the Cherry Point show, I clicked probably over 1000 shots of the Osprey, P-51s, military helicopters and civilian acrobatic props, I got only 3 relatively sharp ones.

Dan, there will be a decent show at Dover AFB this weekend, no BA nor TB but the lineup is still pretty decent. I will probably hop over on Sunday since it's only 2 hours away from me.

Thanks Douglas,
And I see what you are talking about, blue planes, blue skies and heat, not good for long lenses...
Love it when cloudy with a few blue patches.
The F-16 has a new paint scheme, be neat to see what it looks like.
Shooting the White with black stripe F-5 in a few months, has a big white Bengal tiger on the tail with blue eyes.
Got some pictures sent to me finally, man it's neat.

Douglas,
Have you shot with the Sony a7R V or the Sony a7R IVA ?
I think the V is going to my next camera.
I just bought an R7 to check out Canons blazing fast auto focus ( so their site says ) but didn't work for me so back to B&H...Been wanting to try it since it came out tho.
.
Maybe there is a sony camera to canon lens adapter

Bill, there are several adapters to use Canon lenses on Sony E mount cameras, the best one is made by Sigma (MC-11?). Personally I wouldn't use lenses for different brand on Sony cameras with an adapter for fast moving stuff, it slows down the AF. Besides, you get no more than 15 FPS with non Sony lenses on the fast Sony cameras. Even Sigma/Tamron lenses specifically made for Sony E mount can't get faster that 15 FPS, because Sony doesn't want them to be able to compete with Sony lenses when it comes to FPS.

I have not shot the A7R IVA, but had the A7RIV, the IVA version is exactly the same except it has a newer and higher resolution LCD screen. I have the newer A7RV which has a fantastic AF system with the dedicated AI chip for AF. BUT, a big BUT, it only does 10 FPS, which is pretty lame by today's standard, and an EVF that induces blackout, like most of the mirrorless cameras. Once you shot a camera with no EVF blackout, it's very hard to go back. In my recent air to air shoot, I used an A1 and an A7RV, because I sold one of my two A1s after I bought the Nikon Z8. The A7RV's EVF blackout bugged the hxll of of me. I think it's perfectly fine for not too fast stuff, landscape type of things. But for shooting fast moving subjects like planes and birds at higher frame rate, I will stick with cameras with stacked sensors (which enables blackout free the EVF), that's why I bought back another A1 two weeks ago.

As far as I know, right now the only body with stacked senso in Canon land is the R3, the R5's EVF is almost blackout free from what I read, but I have never shot one myself. In Nikon they have the Z8 and Z9, in Sony they have the A1, A9, A9II. I know the Sony A9III has a global shutter, I am not exactly what they call the sensor in that body.

Personally, if I wanted to try a high resolution camera with stacked sensor and blackout free EVF, I would look at the Nikon Z8, Z9 or the Sony A1, the Canon R5 can be pretty close. Jim has an R5 so he could offer his opinion. But the R5II should be out soon....

I bought the R5 back in November for black friday, seems like a pretty good camera. The 61mp looks appealing tho and faster auto focus. The a9II seems good too but smaller megapixels.

This is what I got when I was too slow to keep the subject in frame.. That split second the F-35B made the best looking cone in the whole show but I clipped it. I clipped more shots than I should have.

The two prop. shots are 2 of the 3 that I am keeping, out of over a 1000 shots of props. Perhaps the worst ratio for me ever. The rest were all blurry mess.
