Mine is not too bad, but still not great and I am thinking of ordering a second one. I am holding off though I think for now to see what they come up with.

Actually Tom_W the 1D3 can be a lot of fun to shoot with. If you just read this thread and others like it you will only dissapoint yourself. The thread Jeff started a while back about the great shots from the 1D3 was a nice way to balance this thread out.
Unless there are some absolute critical to your business type AI shots that you only have one chance to get the camera is a great tool and can be used to capture amazing shots.
P.S. judging from the comments though some people have some really poor performing bodies. Why is up to Canon but there are also a lot of us who have found the body to be very reliable save in servo AI.

Well I would say I took several steps back with my original bodies and with the new ones I would say I am closer to my performance levels out of my M2's. I am sending in my M3 and my 400 2.8 to see if they can make it work as they should.
I have to wonder how much this has cost canon and will continue to cost them. This whole send it in and try and adj this and that is just making them bleed. Why not find the fix and call it good vs chasing ghost.
Don't forget Iberian a broken clock is right twice a day.

Not only Canon, but you and me as well.
A lot of time figuring out if it's the body or user error. Even more time to convince Canon my body is not working properly. Sending it out for service, getting it back, trying and sending out again.
All the frustrations for having a very expensive body that doesn't work properly and you can't trust. Time is money as well.
With me it takes already 9 months and it's still not good!

Canon called me also after sending a email to the CEO..I sent it in and they reapplied the first fix a 2nd time...They didn't even look at the freakn camera. They said all they did was update firmware even though it already had the most updated. Even gave me the extended warranty a second time. I was furious that I had sent in images and etc and the tech automatically assumed it was in for the fix... So I called and complained about it again and a week later I got a call today that they want me to send the body in again with my lens and they promised to look at it closer this time...
not fun when it's your only body and you have school projects due...

Sell it and move on...Do yourself a favor.. Others might want to deal with this issue if the price is right.

I just got an email from my contact at Canon chastising me for giving out his email address to someone that asked me for help. They had been waiting over 2 months for their return labels and have heard nothing...I gave him my contact and said he had been very helpful... Well...I get one today from the tech saying...do not give out my direct Canon email address.

Not to promote confrontationalism (is that a word?) but in this kind of situation if you're not getting satisfaction (sounds like you may be), I'd be tempted to call and followup with an email reiterating your disappointment/objections, and CC the CEO.

right now, i'm waiting for my 1d3 to come back from fix #1. called them to see what they did and the (bitchy) lady said, "sub-mirror stopper replaced." here's the rest of the convo:
me: where is it in the process?
her: i don't know
me: can you check?
her: it's sitting here
me: why is it sitting there?
her: you requested for us to hold it for pick-up
me: i did nothing of the sort! send it now!
her: ok
me: can you send it to my sis's house cuz i'm never home
her: no. but we can do it
me: huh? is that a yes or no?
her: it'll cost ya extra
me: are you serious?
her: <corporate garbage speak>
me: forget it, send it to my house
her: ok
me: can you tell purolator to NOT make a first delivery attempt and send it directly to the depo? (i'm at work)
her: (insert excuse)
me: holy crap. just send it to my house
her: ok
me: what was teh validating/ testing that was performed
her: i dunno
me: do i get an extended warranty
her: <insert bs here>
me: so you're telling me that canadians get screwed and are not treated equally to the US canon people?
her: (silence)
me: <click>
why does this have to be so painful? the mississauga service center chick IS a useless bag of tits. after months of dealing with this, i'm kinda sick of getting frustrated with this. i'll just wait to see what happens with my sub-mirror stopper replaced 1d3.

I don't think I've ever heard that phrase before. It got me laughing. I'm still holding off sending my 1D3 in for the fix here in the US until I get more info on the ultimate fix.

never heard this one before either - sorry to hear of this painful conversation (a word which doesn't seem appropriate given how it was handled by Canon).

Is there a copy of the letter/info that US owners are getting with regard to the extention of warranty? I'm dealing with Canon Canada on this right now myself, and want to be able to present evidence of the US (world) offer of extended warranty if they aren't going to included it as a matter of course... 'cause I'll demand it (and see how that goes)

The "ultimate" fix will be it's successor....maybe.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Canon will make it as painful as possible for customers to get the, let's just say there are at least a few. very problematic cameras completely fixed.
Before you start name calling, know that MY particular camera came back from Canon MUCH worse than it was before it left. All I want is the thing to perform as well as my other 2 1D bodies. To say that they are trying by sending out shipping labels is a poor excuse. Luckily, I don't have to rely on mine to put food on the table.
Canon sees that extending the warranty is more than enough compensation for the headaches that some owners are going through.

If Canon doesn't think they have a huge PR problem they should send someone to the Philadelphia Flower Show and talk to some of the serious shooters there. I chatted with a number of people there and people are getting real pissy with the stonewalling and have some pretty unpleasant things to say about Canon as a company. This whole fiasco is definitely getting worse. It hasn't gone unnoticed that more than a few people are getting their cameras back in much worse shape than it went in nor is the very poor quality of Canon's customer service being ignored.
BTW... I shot with my 20D because I could not trust my repaired 1DMkIII. Nice to have in focus images again but I really missed the other features that make the camera so great.

So, how many are there in a bag
they are no longer supplied in bags. They now come in cups. Or with cup holders.
