You know guys, this is probably being viewed as pretty offensive by the feminine FMers.

Is there a copy of the letter/info that US owners are getting with regard to the extention of warranty? I'm dealing with Canon Canada on this right now myself, and want to be able to present evidence of the US (world) offer of extended warranty if they aren't going to included it as a matter of course... 'cause I'll demand it (and see how that goes)

There was a copy of the letter on Rob Galbraith. Although I got no letter, Canon Australia CPS confirmed the same arrangement applies to fixed cameras in Australia - one year from the fix.

Nothing spectacular, as I was fiddling around microadjusting on the fly...(nearly impossible to do in bright sun and with the semi-lousy Mk3 LCD)...but I got it dialed in after a few minutes to what I thought looked good. When I got home and critically reviewed, I found the micro adjustment that worked the best for that lens...in this case (70-200IS F2.8).

Not sure how many use this approach, but for those of you shooting RAW only, you can change the in-camera sharpness setting for whatever Picture Style you are using to maximum sharpness, and the RAW's embedded JPEG will reflect that sharpness setting. The 10x LCD preview will then look much closer to what you see on screen in your RAW editor (unsharpened).

Since I no longer shoot RAW+small JPEG, changing this setting has no impact for me, and it makes the crappy LCD a bit more useful for checking critical focus. Try it.

Along those lines, it's my belief that the MkIII's marginal LCD was a late-stage design consideration that was implemented to more closely match the output from the 1D MkIII. Word on the street is that this change was responsible for the $500 price hike late in the game...

Actually, in case you guys missed the thread in Forum & Miscellaneous a few weeks ago, Fred's intent is that FM.com become self-moderating. He intends to bring on no more moderators, and suggested that everyone use the 'Report' button as a means of identifying and communicating behavior that defies the rules at FM.com.

Lead by example, in short.

Jeff
Former FM.com Moderator

PS: The above discourse would be considered to be one form of a forum's self-moderation, in addition to the use of PM to communicate such disagreement out of the public eye (nudge nudge, wink wink).

ok... back on track now.

i called canon today, again, to see if they sent my camera back as they said they would. the canon tech said, "it's sitting here." in complete and total disbelief i said, "umm... what is going on over there? [person A] told me that they're sending the camera out." long story short: it's being sent out today overnight.

though, i did get some documentation in the mail regarding what was done to my camera. here are some of the details, for those who'd like to know...

customer complaint = "sub mirror fix. firmware upgrade"
cause = "replace parts"
technician's notes = "replaced listed parts, performed af mirror and af focus adjustment, upgraded firmware, general cleaned and checked."
parts used = "stopper, sub mirror"

which leads me to believe that they not only replaced the sub-mirror stopper, but also the entire sub-mirror assembly(?). is this what people are seeing in their documentation?

No! My documentation mentioned adjustments were made and firmware installed. No mention of a hardware change.

Today I brought all my gear to the repair center for calibration.
It took them all day to do this and I collected my gear at the end of the day.
I did some quick tests with my 1DMkIII + 400DO and I made burst of 20-30 pictures of cyclist and cars.
And guess what!!! 95% in focus (25% in the past)
This looks very good, this weekend I'm out in the field to give it a real test.
So far it looks very promissing.

Chris, that's some good news there! As far as the D3, I would keep the order in place though. There are some FMers here that have both . You should have tried my 14-24G while I was there..... .
