Henry, DON'T send your lenses in, as requested (ignoring the fact that it that could cost an arm and a leg, if they try to charge you). Simply arrange to mail them a DVD with test images from your camera w/lenses in question on the 'problem' body, on a 'good' body, and make sure the tests clearly illustrate the fact that your lenses are in proper working order. It is positively ridiculous to expect you to do what they are asking, and it's a 'canned answer' that won't solve your issue.

E-mail me for further if you wish.

Yep, I agree with Jeff. Don't send all your lenses in with your body.

I did this at the direct request of CPS UK and drove all my gear down to London on Monday morning and told them I needed it back by Friday. On Thursday I got a call saying they wanted to charge me for the calibration and despite me telling them I had taken everything at the direct request of CPS, I had to pay to release my hostaged gear! Later after complaining strongly I did get a refund......

I am hoping that they did get it fixed because despite Monito's recent barbs, I really want this to work out.

Don't worry, I have no intention of sending in all of my lenses (though I might if they accept my challenge and can come up with a plausible explanation for them all breaking at the same time). As a side note, I found that Canon reps aren't too quick in picking up on sarcasm in response to silly statements.

Henry, I could swear I read somewhere above that you had a chronic front-focusing issue with the MkIII, compared to your other bodies, with all of your lenses. Did I imagine this, or is it true? If it is true, Is it worse in AI Servo or One Shot?

Nope, wasn't me. My main problem is that in One Shot the camera focuses very inconsistently. For example, when shooting a brick house from a good tripod with a RRS BH-55 head, while using a cable release, with a 300mm F4 L (IS off) at between 1/500 and 1/1000, defocusing between each shot, refocusing and getting a focus confirmation 3 out of 10 shots will be significantly OOF. Did a series of a street sign with the same testing procedure and six of the ten frames were visibly different from one another. Can't see any particular pattern.

Also, I get blooming for lack of a better word when confronted with high contrast subjects such as white text on a blue sign unless everything is parallel. The further off angle the more the blooming.

Hopefully they fixed both as they were provided with extensive samples and detailed notes.

This thread sounds very similar to what I have experienced.

While it looks like the Mk3 issues are mainly fixed now with the newest cameras, it looks like the Nikon D3 is showing some signs of trouble.
That's something considering that only 12 people in the world own one

This is a bit different. It sounds like people are having some solvable problems adjusting to an AF system that works a bit differently than what they are used to. That's not the same as having a camera that won't focus correctly because of a fundamental design flaw.

My fresh-off-the-line 'Blue Dot' seems to work much better in AI Servo, but that is all I'm prepared to say at this point, other than I haven't seen any 'ghosting' in all of ~160 images. I shot some test shots today in One Shot, and let's just say I have some questions to answer via more rigorous testing than I had time for today. Unfortunately I have a brand-new 40D as well, so it's adding to the difficulty of evaluating issues that I've never seen before with either the 1Ds nor the 30D. I wish (for testing purposes) that I hadn't sold the 30D off so quick...

So when someone is new to a camera and in figuring out how to adjust its settings and learn how it works, to you that means they "really have to baby that sucker" and the "problems are in fact a design flaw." Interesting... It must be a hell of a time for you when the windshield wiper controls on a new car are different.

at every turn now the koolaid must be tasting better, when everyone was "babying" the MKIII, clicking their heels 3 times while chanting "please work" you were so wanting a D3 but couldn't find one, now you have convinced yourself you somehow "made" the right choice to stay put with canon. you really are a piece of work and an amazing source of entertainment

Of course, the sleepless Nikon police - AJ and J promptly arrived, right on the bell in the middle of the night. I wish our snow plow driver is that receptive to our needs.

Our snow plow drivers are over-receptive. I swear, they've been salting since mid-september.

John,
A while ago, I commented on a thread about someone asking the question on the Canon board whether he should switch to Nikon. My comment was a simple "had he posted that on the Nikon board that he would get more positve responses there". You "accused" me of being a fanboy or my post had a "fanboyish" tone. At that time, I "respected" your opinion and said to myself that you may be right. But from your response here, you are as "fanboyish" as I am or actually even more so. There goes the "respect".....

Hopefully it's not the case like what i got the two blue-dot Mark IIIs from Dell, i see no differences at oneshot mode compared with the 6 copies Mark IIIs i had witout the SB_FIX, still can't meet my old 1D standard in normal lighting condition

you and me both , but yes i admit i Am sleepless in the winter in Minnesota and laughed out loud at "the drisley" , if anyone takes it any other way they are taking it too far. Now back to our regularly scheduled whipping of the MKIII and its plethora of ills and the arduous road to paradise which is a working unit for "our" Jeff .

touche'

and i tell folk all the time to stay with canon. you would do well to just get all the threads Drisley has commented on in say the last 6 weeks. i assure you it is incredible in its flip flopping in its condissention, in down right foot in mouth utterances. For the childish calling of nikon by spelling it : "noink" to the beating up on the MKIII and the sometimes greatness of the D3 to now the eschewing of same. All in all it is as i said grand internet forum entertainment

THEN decide if i was grandstaanding or being a fanboy . And likely there is some of both but never in a hard hearted manner. Between Dris and james99 there is enough humor to perhaps get me thru the minnesota winter

Thanks, John. You wanna fly to Colorado and teach me how to focus this thing? It's probably a touch warmer here, but it's windier than all get-out!
