p.9 #1 · Re: Not enough train pics...

Thanks, Walter. It wasn't really that bad out there. I was right on the road and there was a surprising amount of traffic, in spite of the weather. I did get stuck and my fingers got very cold but it was worth it.

The second image is a bit out of focus but I wanted to show more of our weather. I shot the image below just prior to the one above and there was a longer than usual pause before the camera fired. For the first one I focused on the signal towers and squeezed off when the train was in the right position. I think the snow caused the camera to focus late on the second shot.

By the way, we've got lots of snow now but the weatherman says it's going to warm up and rain. By mid-day tomorrow the temperature will be up to about 14 C (57 F) and we're supposed to get 100+ mm (4") of rain in the next 24 hours. Combine that with melting snow and there will be water everywhere.

Its not fair! You get snow and rain? We don't even get rain down here in Georgia!
Nice images - even the out of focus isn't a bad image - just out of focus. Sometimes out of focus still works!

Wow there are some fantastic shots here. Keith, I love the snow shots. Jack, those shots of yours are really cool too. I love how you have the low view where it shows all the undulations and waves of the rails.

Keep them coming. These are all great.

Not much snow in July, but Lyndhurst Sta. lies on a curve. Easy to shoot.

Northbound from Hoboken.

I finally got myself trackside again Saturday, after being away for a while. I'd already planned to be out when I got news of some special visitors coming through:

While I was out, I also caught a long hood forward light power move:

Hey we get snow - some years! Northern California, like Donner Pass or north over the Cascades into Oregon? That's a different story!

See! Snow!

I happened across this thread after shooting this image just this morning. I was tighter than I'd like but I couldn't do much about it. I was shooting birds with my 400mm at a local lagoon when this one just rolled on by.

Rob,

Nice pic for a grab shot. Nothing wrong with a closeup once in a while. You nailed the focus, too. Show us some more...

is that 9 or 10 engines/locomotives? Just imagine 20 years ago those would have all been war bonnets!

We are expecting heavy snow here and I am hoping to get some shots of this Jet Snow Blower MoW train in action. If I do I will post it.

That's 11 units in a power move. First thing in the morning we'd had foggy weather and fair coverage of snow at Summit but not quite down to the 138/I-15 junction area. It melted off quickly as the sun came out.
