Union Pacific was pulling for United Way and it's intermodal clients during a snow storm at 2:00 am this morning in Rochelle, IL. I took this shot using ambient light which required me to move in close with my 50mm lens.
Here is a nightshot during a blowing snowstorm. It was a very tough shot and the train was moving so there is some blurring... sorry.. This was at 2:00 am this morning.
Thanks Aaron... I love the steamtrain shots. If you get to Rochelle look me up. Just ask for me at the Rochelle Railroad Park Gift Shop. They know how to get intouch since I live close by. There is tons of activity here because of the 150 trains that pass through town a day. It's freight 24-7 every 15 minutes.
UPs Global III here is the largest Intermodal yard in the world.
I don't know of a place that has more train activity in the US. Some of these trains have to be over a mile long. Tomorrow I'll get some BNSF shots. I live on the UP side of the town hence the high number of UP shots.
I got this shot while I was on my way to dinner (IHOP). As I was crossing the tracks I looked to my right and saw the light I could work with and just had to pull over.
I am suprized there have been no postings of the Wilmington & Western Railroad posted yet. Time to throw my hat into the ring.
This was taken on one of their Double header weekends last September. i wish I could get a position far enough away from the tracks so I could get the second locomotive in view.
A bit of a derailment. A park near home operates a wonderful train for little people and the engine's front wheels jumped the track. Here they are trying to right them.
Early last summer, Southern Pacific’s X4449 was heated up for a run on the UP tracks out of Portland, for an excursion down to Salem, Corvallis and Eugene. I was lucky enough to catch it in the yard, awaiting clearance to enter the mainline for a short run over to the P&NWRR trackage. This split off takes it over a small wooden trestle over hwy 99E in the town of Milwaukie in SE Portland. What a sight it was coming over that trestle under full steam. I was reminded by my wife earlier today, that this engine is again running both this weekend and next on a short 40 min roundtrip excursion with the great Mr. S Claus as a fundraiser to help restore a couple more steamers. Anyone in the PDX area should come out and ride this beauty! We plan on going next weekend and hopefully I will be able to post some fresh pics of this fantastic steamer.
Speaking of archives, here's one I scanned from an old photo. Unfortunately not the best of quality--just a taste, I guess, but I am going to get myself a good scanner really soon. I've got quite a few slides and pictures from the good ol' days that I'd love to post.
This picture shows a trio of BC Rail SD40-2s departing Lillooet, B.C. in late July of 1985 with a mixed freight. BCR was heavy into Alco and MLW power so it was a bit unusual to see an exclusively EMD consist.
