thanks...the first didn't really work out the way I wanted. the version that is closer to what I had in mind has a branch in the way

*edit* did some more work and took the darned branch out...some more selective burning around the hills to get rid of the halos...

I want to bump this back up to the top so I can ask a question also. Is there any place on line I could find some train schedules for the Norfolk and Souther trains that run in my area? I found one wesite but it wasnt much help as I couldnt understand the charts haha. Just looking for date and times and what line. I can figure the rest out

And heres two more. Nothing great but I dont wanna bump the thread without adding pictures haha.

To all you great RR camera drivers:

I'm 77 years. Looking at what this thread produces in the age of the Web and digital photography, I mourn that this image technology didn't exist as I grew up when STEAM WAS THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN!

Thanks, people!

DonM,
Welcome aboard!!

Jason,
Cool shots of the "Chessie". As for skeds, I don't know about CSX, but UP and BNSF run trains when they have trains to run. That means no set skeds per say. That being said, I'm on the west coast and the nearest operating rails are over two hours away, so take it with a grain of salt. Maybe someone closer to your locale will have more info.

Welcome!!

Thanks bob. I actually have tracks running right through my backyard, on the other side of my fence, but have never gotten any pictures of them coming through.

All Norfolk and Southern though so its 99.9% container cars. We have lots of track here in Norfolk Va. Some coal and some containers. Just depends on what side of town youre on. I just dont want to go sit by some tracks for hours waiting haha.

Photographing trains is a lot like fishing. You have to pick your spot based on the conditions then put your line in the water and wait. Of course those that do it often know the best holes and when the fish usually bite.
