Shooting at f1.8 requires the correct focus point selection due to the shallow DOF. I use almost exclusivly the center AF for gymnastics. At one of the meets I was puzzled as to why the face wasn't sharp but waist line was...And I finally realized that the floor was elevated and I was essentially shooting from the ground level shooting up with the center AF on the waist line, therefore tilting my focus plane.
I love my 200/1.8, just have to know it's limitations and the little things can you bite you...

I agree - quite funny. Could we see examples please, I just can't quite visualize this.

Threads like have been popping up, off and on for years. Always very interesting reading, with the opinions of the "cult" owners and the naysayers. I personally have a reverence feeling towards this lens. A thread like this, "made" me go out and get one, some 3 years ago.
I have 85/1.2, 135/.2 and 70/200/2.8............but the 200/1.8 is in a league of its own. I do not carry it around anyway near as much as when I first got it, because of the big/heavy box it lives in, but every time I do, it gives me the same wonderful "look" that it does so well. IMO

And again. Straight from camera. No noise reduction. This comet disappeared from sight and this is what I continued to get. Slight adjustment of camera occasionally to keep in frame. 3sec F 1.8

Hard question really... as I use my brothers 300mm F2'8IS when ever I want - and that Lens is also 'stellar' in my opinion
I have shot lots of stuff with my 200mm hooked upto the converter, and any difference is undetectable to the naked eye
the same can be said for the 300mm as well
where the 200mm really wins out, is in the Low light scenario where it blows the 300mm right out of the water
so I guess it a case of reach V Low light
although the 300mm is a far easier Lens to hand hold than the 200mm is
I find my 200 very awkward as the foot plate and dead weight of the Lens seem to be awkward for me
whereas I can throw the 300mm about with ease all day Long
I know there is some negative remarks earlier in this thread about the 200mm - but believe me from the first time I used it I had a broad grin on my face
the BOKEH is just like milk - very smooth straight out of the camera the shots are great
the new 200mm will be a no doubt great Lens but F2 is not F1.8 so I see no way that I could sell mine for the F2 version
