I use the Leica 180 f2.0 on Canons (1Ds, 1Ds, 1Ds2), and have been waiting for Canon to issue a new IS version of the fast 200. AF will certainly expand the possibilities with this lens.

Is the difference that visible between the two apertures?
Well F1.8 is a full stop faster... my point is that the current 200mm is a Joy to use in very poor lighting
when the F2.8 guys have long since packed there bags and gone home, F1.8 does get shots that others cannot
so F2 does close the gap. but for Low light situations, the faster lens the better for me

Hmmm. I'm very conflicted here though - cos if you take the argument a bit further you can say that the 70-200 2.8 is only 2/3rd slower than the new lens....
Meanwhile the original is getting cheaper and has the legendary sharpness (no-one yet knows if the new will actually be as good, let alone better).

Guys, do we need a lesson in f-stops?
That would be 1-stop slower, which is three times as significant as the jump from f/1.8 to f/2.

1.8 guy will be packing to go home early while 200 f2 guy is shooting because f2 guy has got IS
Someone who has a 1.8,please post shots taken @1.8 & @2 to compare the bokeh difference.

Hardly. If you need high shutter speeds, the IS isn't going to make the slower lens any better than the f/1.8. This is a lens capable of many things, but first and foremost it is (or, was intended to be) a sports lens.
