If this is the fix it does not matter. If you need it get it if you don't wait but you may not know which ones are not needing the fix anyway.

Why is it that Drew Strickland's reviews [www.prophotohome.com] don't find much mention ? (relative to Rob's)

If you need it get it, x2. I'm ordering next week.

abqnmusa, I wasn't talking about a refund of the body nor of a car & as you see I'm ordering. You can call me a whiner, I don't care, but I do care about bad service. This mess would be a prime example.

Alistair, nothing a Lagavullin Distiller's Edition couldn't cure. You're drinking my favorite: cheers!

Off to Rome now, gotta run!

I called yesterday and got on the list and they said they would mail me out a mailing label so now all I have to do is to pay for shipping and insurance? Yay! Canon should also be picking up the tab for that. I smell a class action LOL

Canon told me they were picking up shipping both ways.

Now I wonder if we are going to see apologies from all the people who slammed those with legitimate problems? I very much doubt it. There is no doubt that without RG and possibly this forum even canon would have done nothing about the problem. As usual when people find problems with canons QC they get slammed here. Maybe now the naysayers will just shut up and realise that they are retarding progress with their worthless opinions?

Yeah right....

Not so....you throw the Pity Party, and we'll come. It'll be fun eating the milktoast and drinking the koolaid.

Now, let's be real for a second. Anyone who's been around this forum for awile, or any other, knows that there are a TON of folks who sit around and obsesss about thier gear, pixel peeping, worrying. It's a matter of crying wolf, my friend. I bought my III and so did a half dozen of my fellow excellent and experienced photographers and we had NO problems. Arthur Morris reported NO problems on a dozen cameras he used. So it's a matter of credibility and the 'cry wolf' effect.

Now quit whining and get your camera fixed.

So even when you know that there is a real problem you still insist on holding onto your arrogance and insisting that as you don't have a problem it doesn't exist and will carry on with your attitude in the future. Utterly pathetic. You can't even say sorry for your proven mistaken and harmful opinion in this case. No doubt next time that Canon screws up the same idiots will still insist that there isn't and can't be a problem and nothing will be done...

Maybe the "self-test" Canon supposedly will provide will settle the issue and a couple of the nay-sayers will need to send their camera in after all. Will they be here to talk about it? Well...

So what you're saying is that there is no problem

Granted, there are a lot of pixel peepers online. That doesn't make everyone a boy-who-cried-wolf.

Ok, sure, there are photographers who had no issue with the 1D Mk III. That doesn't negate the fact that there are a lot of equally capable professionals who were forced to partially revert to shooting with the Mark II because the Mark III would simply not be reliable, with keeper rates taking a severe hit. Was that all just a placebo effect?

Beni,

I have a MKIII that seems to be working fine. If it has the problem, I'll get it fixed but I will wait and allow the really bad ones the chance to get in line first.

According to Westfall, not all cameras are affected. This would indicate there are in fact good ones and bad ones in the field and both sides of this issue may have been correct all along.

Since my camera worked OK, and I had faith in Canon fixing others, I was called "a Canon Fan Boy", I was told I had low standards and wouldn't know a sharp image if I saw it" I was told I didn't know enough about the camera to tell if it was working correctly or not and a few other things I will leave out of this post.

For some reason unknown to me, you are more concerned about continuing to stir up hard feelings over this than getting your camera fixed. Get your camera repaired and you will understand why many here are well pleased with our gear.

My bottom line is simply this, we are all FM'ers and all owners of the MKIII. The time for comments like yours are past. Lets stay on topic about the upcoming fix. No more name calling please.

Beni.

I think you are confusing confidence with arrogance. I own a Mark III and have had no problems with my copy. Nothing arrogant about that and I don't feel I owe anyone an apology for saying that.
In the past I have slammed the people that have come on this and other forums complaining about the issue and shame on Canon when they do not even own the camera. Because if you don't own the camera, you'll never know what the issue is with the focusing (and never know how awesome of a camera the Mark III is).

Now, I went to an air show couple of weeks back and stayed outside in the 90 degree heat and took quite a few pictures of jet airplanes flying overhead at some pretty fast speeds, with like a 98% keeper rate. This is good considering thousands of pictures were taken that day (not to mention the battery lasted for over 3000 pictures on that charge).

Different people here have different perspectives on this issue. My perspective is that I can personally attest to MY camera works for ME. I hope the persons that have the issues with their cameras get them fixed quickly.

Of course there is a problem. But not with every camera. His camera is working good, and many others also.

I bought the Art Morris pdf on the mark3, Manual focus on birds in flight don't seem like a great test to a focus system to me. He also says in there that some well respected people he knows have had trouble with there mark3's.

Aeubank, just curious did you use a 300 or 400 2.8 and shot at 2.8 to 3.5 at the air show? If not I would suspect you would not see that. I shot a football game at 5.6 and it was fine, later shot at 3.2 and OOF rate went way up. I am not a RG kool aid drinker but like he said they tested 9 different bodies from a wide range of SN some even calibrated by Canon before and he got the same results. BUT he was also shooting under a very specific set of criteria. Not everyone will shoot that way that uses this body, I happen too and I can see a huge difference between my M2 and M3.
What is funny this last weekend we had some nice weather, sunny and mild. I shot a game at 3.2 and most of the pictures were just soft. Some were truly OOF and then some were so spot on it was exciting. What I really wonder is the spot on ones are those the mistake and the soft is what the camera is calling in focus. It will be neat to see the change with the fix.

I don't want to bother Canon again but was I supposed to recieve a confirmation email? I put my request in yesterday and have nothing yet. The only reason it is of concern is aren't they supposed to notify me via email of when they are ready for me to send my camera in? Wish I would have paid attention but I called from work so I was doing several things at once.
