After a few days of reading the manual, snapping pictures of books, lenses and other interesting stuff, I went outside and snapped this. Pretty much as it came from the camera with only cropping and light sharpening.
I don't shoot sports so this was a real stretch for me. I made some mistakes earlier but learned a lot by the last chukker (hence running the ISO a bit hotter than needed on the first one ). I was using a 70-200/2.8 IS with a 1.4x which created a lot of CA. Most of my OOF shots were definitely my doing; I found it challenging to keep on target with the weight at 10fps. I'm kicking myself for not using Highlight Priority.
Here's something I find significant. These eyes get blown out incredibly easily, but there's (IMHO) a good amount of fine detail in the 100% crop. If these seem over sharpened, I use Manyk SRS actions for web sharpening, but I may have to tone it down for the Mk III.

Note that if you use Aperture for processing RAW images, it does not yet understand the HTP setting, and will render your images 1 stop underexposed. Just an FYI...

I didn't know that. I am on a Mac, but using CS3. I love the Recovery function in ACR and it does a nice job pulling back detail into blown out highlights (on MK III files) that I didn't think was there.
(I'm having a heck of a time doing chem homework, so FM has been my distraction and release valve today)
Here are two from the weekend a number of people seem to like. A pretty decent sized crop applied to both too, the second shot from about 70 yards out with a 400.
Wonderful shots in this thread. Great to see all of these.
Here are my very best shots so far. I am having a tough time getting sharp images in "one shot," so I am very frustrated so far with my MarkIII experience. These four are by far the exception and my keeper rate is down from my MarkIIn. I keep hoping it's my error, but haven't been able to determine that for sure yet. I did do a microadjustment with my 500 mm lens and I think that helped a little.
On the positive side, there are many things that I do like about the camera: high ISO capability, ergonomic, & large LCD.
