Frame right out of the camera...
From an aesthetic perspective I rather like the un-cropped image. They look like minatures, for some reason it reminds me of the tilt shift lens wierdness. It'd make a good 3 ft tall print

Must be the 2.8 and the long distance to the trees in the background...I see what you mean tho. My brain is always in crop mode...I need new thinking! Cool observation.

You must be a Nikon D2Xs by nature...lol
I do like the loose look, same as Russ's 200 1.8 soccer post, it has a pleasing look to it.
Thank! All of you are fantasic photographers. Thank you for sharing with all of us. Now it's time to sell my camera and buy what I was on the fense about for some time now. Thanks,
Daniel

I like all but that one. I don't know why but that just doesn't work for me.
I personally have been there with the board flying away from you like that, so I can emphasize with the person, but not the picture.
I can tell you on a formal level why the image doesn't work as well as the others. The boys pose makes a strong diagonal line that leads the eye up and out of the image to the upper right hand corner. Breaking a corner like that is a no-no, be it with a compositional element that is physically present or with a simple line of sight like in this photo.
Also the negative space in the upper left area isn't in a particularly interesting configuration, it's basically a big wedge.
The other photos draw you in more with the skaters compacted stances.
Having said all that, they are some amazing shots and this is nit-picky stuff gleaned from critiquing lots of paintings and photos. Great work!
Gee, I don't think this is a photo critique forum and I posted my images to show some 1DMk3 success only
Anyway, today is the first day I used the 1DMk3 camera for real shooting instead of testing. No surprises and definitely it is not worse than my 1DMk2 for my type of shooting. All images were taken with my 500f4IS with or without 1.4X Tc, center point AF, Al Servo AF, 9 fps. I felt really at home with the new camera at the end of the shooting. All the posted images are with minimal crop and all are usable for prints.
Shane...all that light? It was dusk and the bird was moving. Not to mention the idea that I am in "testing" mode with this camera right now. However, in this case I would have shot at iso 800 even with my Mark II. The sun was right on the horizon.
