I noticed this time EOS Viewer wasn't included in the software package?
Only DPP, Breeze browser, Photostich, EOS Utility, The security verification software, Camera window, Photostyle editor, EOS Capture, RAW Image task and the drivers.
The older version of EOS Viewer won't read the 40D RAW files.
You get a printed copy of the cameras manual and a Quick guide. No printed software manual though.
You can also download a PFD copy of the 40D manual here:
"Yes, came with the latest version of DPP, ver. 3.1
Its really nice. I am not sure if that is the same version for the MKIII.
I would like to know that question, because it is supposed to be very compatible with the canon color, etc.."
The dpp version that came with my mkIII is 3.0.1.5. At least that what its says in the version info.
I've had more sensor dust in my mkIII than I ever had on the 5D. Go figure.
First I want to apologize for asking before reading the whole thread. It might have been mention there. I've read several pages and saw no sign of problem. Is it so?
Background: I was planning to buy the 1D Mk III but because of the AF problems I am reluctant to buy such an expensive piece of machinery with so many having problems with it. Thus the odds of getting a faulty camera is too high IMHO. Now, as the 40D went out I think about getting it in the meantime. As the first batches are out my question is simple: Are there any problems with it?
Bought mine on Saturday. There is one very major problem ... I can't put it down! It will replace my EOS300D ... but will not compare (chalk and cheese).
In the UK mine came with EOS Digital Solution Disk v15.1 (which give me DPP 3.1, PSE 1.0 etc. Firmware is 1.0.3
"...Also, until the patron saint of digital camera testing (you know who he is) has blessed a camera with his charts and graphs the pixel-peepers won't tolerate dissention."
One thing I noticed today when out shooting is the LCD is still hard to read in bright light which is a little disappointing. I still found I had to "Chimp" allot to read the menus.
Spot metering is nice! The Highlight priority feature is also good for shooting landscapes! The viewfinder is also allot better then my 20D's. AF works great and is more accurate then my 20D's (Well you would hope so ). The new hand grip feels nicer too.
Overall its a nice upgrade from a 20D or bellow, Don't know if its such a great upgrade from a 30D though unless you need the improved AF and viewfinder and the anti dust sensor oh and liveview (Still haven't tried this feature out in real world shooting).
Now all I need to do is find one of those EF-D focusing screens. And get more memory cards!

Foresight is a good thing. (plus, I don't want to have to change your ID every time you buy a new camera)
FWIW, your icon is close enough to a 40D as to be indistinguishable... Of course, I'm sure Norm would be able to tell it's a 20D as presented at 64x64 pixels, but that's a different story.
Glad to see that you've finally come to your senses, Jeff.
The guy's ID is "yoshiki_kyo". I had no issues with my purchase and shipping was pretty quick considering it came from Japan.
It came boxed in Canon packaging just as if I bought it from a camera shop.
Instructions included were in English and it came with the custom tool for switching the screens out.
