The prez does seem to have a flair for overt stupidity. Believe it or not here in "the land of the free" you have to protest in designated areas far away from royalty such as he.

problem isnt so much the pres as little politicians taking themselves too seriously.

The Chaser team's arrest after driving a fake motorcade into Sydney's restricted zone - with one member dressed as Osama Bin Laden - proves APEC security is a success, the NSW police minister says.

An angry David Campbell denied he was embarrassed by the comedians' ability to penetrate APEC's restricted zone - rather, he was pleased the "multi-layered'' security had worked.

Why do you care? Does it affect image quality?

Please keep Bush. Just turn him loose in a large city park. He'll never find his way out.

I believe he's saying he doesn't care about what I said.

My point was that high ISO apparently looses dynamic range anyways. So there not a quality disadvantage in doing the NR in post. What doing it in camera does is save time.

I'm confused. Why is anyone worried that Nikon may have actually released a camera that even Canon users could like? Isn't it nice to have choices? It seems like (at least to some) this thread is becoming about slamming on a yet to be released camera to justify why someone hates Nikon and will always shoot Canon. That makes those comments about the most unobjective and useless that I've ever seen on this forum. (Okay, maybe there were some that were worse than these. ) Usually I expect better from those of us on FM.

I'm with you, although I have a huge investment in moslty new Canon gear..I prefer Canon in some ways and have owned both systems...I find that the focus of the Nikon's seemed better to me than my Canon's 20/30 and now 5D compared to Nikon D2x and Nikon D200..But the superior noise reduction with high ISO was to me very superior to Nikon..

Now here we are again...I want the Mark III 21 megapixel camera coming soon but am scared of the focus problems...

It never ends..

But it's getting better...

I was about to sell my Nikon gear and get the 5D and now that the D300 is coming out, I still
want to have the full frame. If I had the money I would have Nikon and Canon gear.

Jose

Very interesting; Nikon are claiming that the D300 offers 1.5 stops noise improvement over the D200. Also testing by some pro in Norway claims the D300 @ ISO 3200 is like the D200 at ISO 800 and the D3 @ ISO 6400 is cleaner than the D2X @ ISO 800. He said this is preliminary testing and Nikon won't allow him to post pictures. He was saying that the 24-70 is superb and the AF o the 600 VR and D3 combo was excellent in low light.

Björn Rörslett attended an official Nikon hands on in Norway to give his impressions.

Thank you, I suspected it would be him, but he hasn't put any of this up on his own site yet, so I wondered. Sounds impressive, undoubtedly serious competition for Canon, at last.

He says that ISO 3200 was much cleaner on the D3 than ISO 640 on his 1D II. If that's true Sony and Nikon have come up with a quantum leap in performance. This would make the 1D III look average.

Interesting. Canon 40D, Nikon D300, Sony A700. The competition might keep giving us better and better gear, regardless of what we are shooting. I like the multiple memory card slots in the Sony, even if it is using a memory stick for one of them. Maybe the Sony will be a decent camera, or maybe not. But I still see these added cameras as a good thing. Kudos to all for continuing to push the envelope at this level!

Well the combination is good. Sony have been making CCD chips for Nikon and Canon for a long time. Nobody has more experience than Sony with CCD. The layout and electronics are still basically Minolta and that can't be all bad (though I tried the Alpha 100 and didn't like the control layout at all). They're getting into bed with some interesting glass manufacturers too.

Sony will go full tilt at this. I reckon in the next two years they will be producing cameras to rival 1-series Canons and top end Nikons. I know what they're like because I've been using their television gear for 20 years. They wouldn't have bought Minolta unless they truly wanted to be market leaders. It's the way they operate.

But the new Sony A700 uses a CMOS sensor not CCD.
