It seems like Canon really think it is a minor update after all (see here)
(O.k. I admit it, - you can write anything, even works with 1DS mk III and the hotter than hot Combo to end the war (pray that this item will never come though).

FYI - tsiphoto has finally appeared on dpreview, confirming the 40D. His info has been consistently correct for the Canon DSLR launches and he doesn't start talking until we're within days of the announcement. It certainly looks like the speculations on an announcement of the 40D next week will play out.
This time around he isn't revealing much, but two hours ago he posted the following intriguing statement: "The new 40d is like a 1D mkIII lite...... that's all I can Say... ". I'll be keeping my eye on that thread to see if he gives more away over the weekend. Here's the link:

tsiphoto on DPR has spoken... he says the 40D is true... the specs are already out there... and also calls it a 1DMIII lite... what ever that means.
If you all remember... tsiphoto has been right about the last 2 or maybe 3 new Canon cameras, and posts just days before the official announcement... He doesn't provide a lot of details, but what he does say has proven accurate in the past.

It's coming, though the Best Buys paperwork got the scoop. I guess we probably know about 85% of its features already through leaks.
You're right about tsiphoto - he/she did accurately predict a couple of more recent DSLR cameras.
I agree, I'm hoping for a center AF point that is in high-precision mode with f/4 and faster lenses and some additional cross-type sensors, even if the total number of AF points is still 9 as many of the rumors have suggested.

I think there is no doubt the AF will be improved, but I don't think it will be f/4 high precision. More would be great, and the 6 hidden AI servo sensors would be great. His comment about the build being the same as the 30D was a result of weather sealing comments suggests that there is no weathersealing.
