It's just a template for use when the camera is announced. They, and other sites do this on a regular basis to make production of the final page quicker.

true, but most of those pages are made and parked on the server without a formal link to it until the product is released or becomes available.
Call me cynical, but I still stick to my original hunch
For what it's worth, the shops here in Japan lowered prices on the 30D to less than $900. Drastic price drops only occur when they have confirmation of when they will receive the next model. My friend owns a camera shop. He told me this. He also lowered the prices on the 30D. He won't say any more.
BTW Amazon Japan dropped the price on the 1DsMkII by $600. It sells for about $5600 before 5% tax. Maybe they know something as well...
30D prices here have dropped too. Last month the 1Ds2 also took a price drop, and Canon Australia were giving a 50 f/1.2 with the 1Ds2 when purchased through a Australian authorized Canon pro dealer.

I doubt that the 20D would go down much at all. Maybe a few dollars. Right now you can get $600 or so and I don't expect that to change much. They're still a great camera no matter what is announced. I won't sell mine, at least for now.
the price isn't the problem... it's just that nobody is selling them right now.
the faces on the side of the wall remind me of the scene in the devil's advocate in al pacino's office with the figures moving around in the mural behind his desk. Are these the faces of the people they conned?

I just hope it won't be a 20D Mk III.
Happy shooting,
Yakim.
I hope not, - my 20D is fine, and my wallet doesn't like me spending so much time on reading about the 40D...
But if the 40D is in fact just a minor update to the 30D I might be able to keep the peace with my wallet
